Re: Interfaith Couples - VOWS???????
??Ring Vows g
(This is how the ring vows work a few different ways If this seems overwhelming just put it down for now and we’ll do it in person later
Style #1 write your own vow
“Crystal/Jonathan, will you now place this ring upon your beloved’s finger and give voice to that which is in your heart?”
what you write goes here if you’re writing like a paragraph
B/G places the ring on B/G’s finger,
Style #2 write a list of what you need for your vow and have me ask for it
“B/G, there are certain things that you can do to help to ensure that you and B/G live a long and happy life together.....
whom ever I am addressing, the other’s list goes here as an “I do”
Will you do these things,
And do you take B/G to be your H/W?”
B/G: “I do”
Crystal places the ring on Jonathan’s finger, or vice versa
Style #3 write a list of what you need for your vow and you ask for it
“B/G, as you take this ring and place it upon your beloved’s finger, will you now tell h__ what it is that you need from h__ that you may live a long and happy life together.....
B/G, whom ever I am addressing, your list goes here and you ask for it
Will you do these things for me,
And will you be my H/W?”
B/G: “I will”
Jonathan places the ring on Crystal’s finger, then vice versa
Style #4 is add ons for the combo platter (still with me? good!)
“Is there anything else that your heart would have say to your beloved?”
Here’s the space to write your own in again or......
“Will you now repeat after me?”
here’s how we’d get a short more traditional vow in. Yep we just tack it right on!
Now for the examples.......I have you starting out looking at another couples vows in the ask for what you want style so you can see how it flows. I’ve also had couples choose to ask the same things of one another. Next are examples of the repeat after me & “I do” styles that you were thinking as an add on. You can rewrite them as you see fit. Any “I do.“ can be reworked to the “Repeat after me” style and vice versa. Yes you skip all this and write your own, what ever you feel is best. (Forgive my redundancy but I know this section can be confusing) Just remember your wedding, your choice.
(Here‘s Tina & Hector‘s vows in what I call the Vannah White throw ’em a vowel style)
“Hector, as you place this ring on Tina’s finger and ask her to be your wife, will you now tell her what it is that you need from her, so that you may live a long and happy life together?”
“I need you to remember to set aside time that is our alone.“
“I need you to continue to look for signs when to guide me and when to let me guide myself.”
“I need you to trust that you are my primary concern, and to know that I will always look to maintain the integrity, honesty and intimacy of our relationship before all worldly cares.”
“Will you remember these things for me?”
“And will you be my wife?”
Tina: “I will.”
Hector places the ring on Tina’s finger
“In that case I Hector take you Tina to be my wife.
I will love you, and honor you, respect and cherish you
All the days of my life..”
“Tina, as you place this ring on Hector’s finger, and ask him to be your husband, will you now tell him what it is that you need from him, so that you may live a long and happy life together?”
“I need you to be warm and openly affectionate with me as a physical reminder of your love and support.”
“I need you to retain your sense of humor, as it lights up even the darkest of times and is something I have come to rely upon as a constant in my life.”
“I need you never to forget our friendship and to hold it dear to your heart.”
“Will you do these things for me?”
“And will you be my husband?”
Hector: “I will.”
Tina places the ring on Hector’s finger
“In that case I Tina take you Hector to be my husband.
I will love you, and honor you, respect and cherish you
All the days of my life..”
now on to the repeat & “I do.“ samples to use as fodder!
“This ring I give you In token of my love and devotion, And with my heart, I pledge to you all that I am. With this ring, I marry you and join my life to yours.”
“I give you this ring. Wear it with love and joy. As this ring has no end, Neither shall my love for you. I choose you to be my wife This day and forevermore.”
'I, B/G, take you, B/G, to be my h/w. Thank you for choosing to share your life with me. You have filled my heart with love, my home with joy, and my life with happiness. I feel truly blessed being your love, your friend, and your companion. I promise you my faithfulness, my trust, my friendship, and, most of all, my love. Throughout my life, I’ll be by your side to share all the joys and sorrows that life presents to us. I love you now and will love you forever.”
'B/G, You are the best thing that has ever happened to me. I thank God each day for bringing us together. You are the love of my life as well as my best friend.
Because of you, I am a better person today. I promise to always love you, honor you, respect you, and cherish you. I promise to always be faithful to you. I will trust you with my heart and with my life. I promise I will always be there for you, no matter what life brings our way. Thank you for choosing to share your life with me as my husband. I give you my heart, and it’s yours to keep for the rest of my life.”
“B/G, I promise that I will always appreciate you.
I will be flexible and embrace change
yet allow you to remain true to your nature
as I remain my own.
I promise to listen always with an kind ear
and to speak with an open heart,
never forgetting that we are both each others
most precious gift in this life.
I promise to participate with you fully in all aspects of life.
And to look for things to enhance our relationship
and the quality of our life together.
I promise to do these things for you and for us,
today, tomorrow and forever,
As your faithful and loving h/w.”
“I B/G, take you B/G, to be my H/W,
My partner in life and my one true love. I will cherish our friendship and love you
today, tomorrow, and forever. I will trust you and honor you. I will laugh with you and cry with you. I will support you emotionally
And empower you with my faith in you and in us. Through the best and the worst, Through the difficult and the easy. What may come I will always be there. As your faithful and loving H/W.”
“B/G, Do you take B/G to be your H/W? Do you promise to listen always with a kind ear
And speak with an open heart
Never forgetting that you are each
the others most precious gift in this life In times of celebration and in times of sadness, Do you vow to support h__, and comfort h__, To empower and encourage h__, all the days of your lives?”
B/G: “I do.”
“B/G, in committing yourself to B/G,
you must promise to continue to be sensitive to h__ needs and to listen when he/she explains their nature.
You must promise to be there when he/she needs you
and to do everything in your power to insure h__ security, happiness and peace of mind.
You must promise to share with h__ your joy of living
and be a loving companion.
Do you so promise?”
“I do.”
“In the presence of all that is sacred,
and before your family and friends, B/G do you take B/G to be your H/W;
to laugh with in joy;
to grieve with in sorrow;
to support in sickness and in health;
to grow with in love;
and to be faithful to h__ alone,
as long as you both shall live./
all the days of your journey?”
“I do.”
“I B/G, Take you B/G, to be my W/H.
Words pale in comparison,
To that which my heart would say.
So let this ring ever serve as a reminder of my love,
Constant and unwavering,
We are, as we have been, separate yet one.
As we walk together through the rest of our journey.
Whenever you look at this ring,
Know that as I am with you now.
So will I be with you, and love you,
For as long as we both shall live.”
??Blessings of the Bride and Groom g
“Will you now hold hands and look into each others eyes?”
Bride and Groom join hands and look into each others eyes
“Kind and filled with love be these eyes filled with love that gaze into your own this day. As time passes and the face of your beloved changes with the years, see the love that shall remain ever constant.”
“Warm and open be these hearts as they reach for one another, feel the beat that from this day forth shall forever beat as one with your own.”
“Gentle and devoted be these hands dearly, lovingly and tenderly holding one other this day, these hands that shall grow to be healer, protector, shelter, and guide as they journey through this life together.”
“We give thanks and rejoice in that which has been created in this man and woman. And as the years pass, may they ever hold a vision of the love they share this day reflected in each others eyes, beating hearts and wondrous touch.”
“Are you ready to continue with your vows not as two but as one?”
Crystal and Jonathan: “We are.”
??The Wedding Vows g
“Do you vow to keep open your hearts and minds that neither words nor the lack of them shall ever cause a silence to dwell between you that your love cannot bridge?”
Crystal and Jonathan: “We do.”
“Do you vow to ever remember to take joy in life, and in each other, never forgetting it is the matters of the heart that are real?”
Crystal and Jonathan: “We do.”
“Do you vow to share whatever burdens the mundane world may present, in that overcoming them together your spirits shall grow towards a common hope, dream and reality?”
Crystal and Jonathan: “We do.”
“Do you vow to love and cherish each other keeping sacred above all else, the place your hearts hold for one another?”
Crystal and Jonathan: “We do.”
“You are now as your hearts have always known:
Husband and Wife. You may kiss the Bride!”

Re: Interfaith Couples - VOWS???????
I found this on weddingchannel.com. These are the vows they have specifically for interfaith ceremonies:
Interfaith 'I, _____, take you, to be my wife/husband. I promise to be true to you in good times and in bad, in sickness and in health. I will love and honor you all the days of my life.'
But if you go the site they list all different kinds of vows. How about combining some? They have both the Jewish and Catholic vows listed as well. Then you can use some creativity.
you should ask the officiants what they are going to say. there might be certain 'vows' that need to be said to make it legal in both religeons. we are also writing a letter to the cantor 2 weeks before the ceremony with 3 paragraphs - 1 - how we met - 2- the moment we knew we fell in love with eachother - 3- what makes our love different. he is then going to read different parts of our letters during the ceremony. i think its a nice personal touch.

Re: Interfaith Couples - VOWS???????
that is a great idea, dbcrosby, i dont know if you read my post a few weeks ago, but my priest double booked us, and i am trying to get the other one that i like from my mom and dads parish to do it. UGH. i swear. i only have a half hour for the ceremony, so i would really like to do the letter thing if we can squeeze it in.

Re: Interfaith Couples - VOWS???????
This is what we are doing:
The priest will do my vows, theVows:
Holly and Daniel, have you come here freely and without reservation to give yourselves to each other in marriage?
Us: We have.
Will you love and honor each other as husband and wife for the rest of your lives?
Us: We will.
. With those intentions offered, please turn to each other, take one another’s hand and repeat after me:
Daniel, do you take Holly to be your wedded wife, to live together after God’s ordinance in holy matrimony? Do you promise to love her, to honor and cherish her, in joy and in sorrow, in sickness and in health, and to be to her in all things a good and faithful husband as long as you both shall live?
Holly, do you take Daniel to be your wedded husband, to live together after God’s ordinance in holy matrimony? Do you promise to love him, to honor and cherish him, in joy and in sorrow, in sickness and in health, and to be to him in all things a good and faithful wife as long as you both shall live?
You have now declared your consent before God, in His goodness, may He strengthen your consent and fill you both with His blessing. What God has joined, let no one divide.
_____________________________________
May the Lord bless these rings, which you give to each other as a sign of your love and faithfulness.
To the groom: Please place this ring upon the finger of your bride and repeat after me.
Holly, this ring I give to you symbolizes the unending union of my life with yours. Your dreams are now my dreams; your hopes are my hopes; and your love is my blessing.
To the bride: Please place this ring upon the finger of the groom and repeat after me:
Daniel , this ring I give to you symbolizes the unending union of my life with yours. Your dreams are now my dreams; your hopes are my hopes; and your love is my blessing.
Wear these rings as a symbol of your love for each other. May they always remind you of the commitment of love you have made today.

Re: Interfaith Couples - VOWS???????
i would take a look at the vows and traditions book from the knot. there are TONS of very nice sample vows in it.
