Aww I feel for you!
My mom actually had the nerve to tell me that 'God does not recognize any weddings outside of a church'... she is starting to calm down a bit, but she is DEFINITELY not happy about it!

I had the same problem. Do What you want to do and stick too it when they see that you are not budging they will change their mind.I am actually having a rabbi come to the catholic church to make my inlaws happy. See if that is an option.

Re: Interfaith couples with stubborn parents...
JoAnn brought up a great point. Many rabbi's and priests will go to synagogue and churches to perform interfaith ceremonies. I know it doesn't help your situation, but you might need to sit down with both sets of parents to figure it out and hopefully it does not become heated!

In the end, the only decision that you are going to feel comfortable with is the one that you feel is the right one, not what other people say is the right decision for you to make.

Mom's are funny. My mom said, during the initial planning stages when I was considering getting married at the reception site, 'I'd really like you to get married at church.' Keep in mind we are devout christian and are very involved in our church. However, I wasn't pressed about getting married in our church (it's VERY expensive to marry there) because I know that God honors two hearts that are sincerely united in love and committed to one another in matrimony, WHEREVER the service is performed. A 'building' does not make matrimony legit. No more than 'the church' is the building you're in - it's the people. IMHO.

the first year of our engagement was full of the parents fighting over religeon. both are extremely strong in their faiths. finally, both parents agreed to pay for the wedding in exchange for a comprimise of a deacon and cantor who wont be over bearing.

Re: Interfaith couples with stubborn parents...
You two need to sit down and decide what you both want for this wedding. Then, present a united front to the parents. It will be difficult and they may even make some threats relating to showing up at the wedding but in the end, they'll be there. You guys still have 2 years to work on them and bring them over to your side. But the most important thing is that you and FH are ok with your decision. If nothing else is, the ceremony should be 100% about you two.
