We went to the Interfaith Pre-Cana this past weekend and it was great! We didn't think it would be, but we were surprised. We really enjoyed it and felt it helped. We have been together over 8 years and living together for 3 of them so we really had a good grip on a lot they went over, but it still helped! We left there feeling like our relationship had been strengthened somehow. It was such a great feeling that overcame us this weekend. It's hard to explain.
It was also very helpful in how to handle being an interfaith couple. I highly recommend this to everyone!

Re: Interfaith Pre-Cana
I completely second everything Suzanne said. FI and I felt the exact same way. By far exceeded any expectations we had.
(So fuuny, I had no idea who you were. I was the one you spoke to briefly about the book, our FI came in from smoking talking about it )
The highlight of the weekend definitely had to be when someone raised his hand to ask...'if in 5 years things don't work out and I want to get a divorce, how would I go about that'

Oooh, can you guys FM me the info please? I really want to do this but couldn't find anything on it. Was it something your officiant(s) required or did you decide to do it on your own?
Glad to hear you loved it so much, by the way!

Hi Girls!!!
I totally agree with both of you.. My FH and I loved precana!! I was so sceptical coming into it, I thought it was going to be totally boring.. However, I was totally wrong. .. I LOVED IT!!
The guy who asked that question was too funny. He seemed very enthustiastic, laughed out loud at everything, and raised his hand how he completed all the different classes. On Saturday he got into a fight w/ his FW (not sure what about) and they wound up sitting at two seperate tables. He started up a conversation with us and explained that he was fighting.. LOL Sunday they were all love'y dove'y again, they must have done their homework.. LOL
It definitely answered a ton of questions I had, and both couples that hosted the class were great!!
But what was up with the heat??? OMG, I thought I was going to die.. way to hot!! It was a really nice room, however they should of installed windows that OPEN!! Oye!
The part at the end was my favorite.. when they made each couple hold each others hands and look at them.. I cried like a baby.
Suzanne, I didnt realize that was you until the end when they gave out the certificates. I'm sorry we didnt get a chance to chat.. but you did a great job w/ the little skit!!
JRL.. which couple were you???

Re: Interfaith Pre-Cana
Since we are having a priest perform our ceremony, it was required. I can't tell you how happy we are that we had to go. It was well beyond anything we expected. We did it through the Rockville Center Diocese. I would contact them for more info.
jrl0223 - that is so funny that our FH's spoke to each other and we didn't realize that we were both on here. That question on Saurday was very disturbing. I hope that couple makes it through.

Re: Interfaith Pre-Cana
Our priest is a family friend, his parish is St Elizabeth's in Melville. He's doing us a favor by officiating at our ceremony. But he was the one who said we needed to take the class. He gave us the registration form to fill out and mail in.
I didn't realize that couple was fighting, maybe that expalins why he asked that question. Did you happen to catch on sunday when he asked a question, how he made sure to mention that he loves his finace very much.
D&J, we were sitting on the left side (facing the front) second row. After they called our names, Jaimee and James, we walked up the aisle and snuck out.

There was definitely something a bit odd about him.
I think I remember you both.. It seemed as tho, the ppl you met when you walked in were the ones you meshed with all weekend.. I wish they would of done a quick group thing to introduce everyone..
Have both of you used your clothespin yet?? I thought that idea was very creative.

Re: Interfaith Pre-Cana
That actaully is a good point. I agree that it would have been nice to do some sort of ice breaking game in the very beginning.
Love the clothes pin idea, we've left a few places for each other. I'm afraid we're going to run out of creative places soon.
For those of you reading who weren't there, basically the clothes pin is a symbol to let the other person know you're thinking of them. For instance, if you know FI is going to make coffee in the morning, you can leave the clothes pin on the handle and when he sees it he'll know you'r ethinking about him. The couple explained it much better
Btw, Sandie and Joe were the most outwardly and obviously in love couple I have ever met. I really envy them, and you could tell they work hard at mainting their great relationship.

I thought they were fighting beforehand. I wasn't sure. They did seem a little more lovey on Sunday so hopefully they were able to work things out Saturday night. it must have been a long night for them.
I thought the couples were both great and that Msgr. Beckmann was very helpful, open and informative. They answered a lot of our questions. I hate AC and love the heat so it didn't bother me too much. FH was dying from it tough.
That part at the end when we held each others hands are all I have been talking about. It was so powerful and emotional. It left you with such an amazing feeling. I wish I could get that to frame and hang in my house. It made me realize how much I am going to cry during our ceremony too. I need to make sure I wear waterproof mascara
D - I didn't think I saw you there. I was trying to see if I could figure it out from the pic you have on here. Guess I wasn't very good at it. Too bad we didn't get to chat. I always get picked to do stupid things like that skit for some reason. I was not happy they asked us to do it but it wasn't as bad as we thought. Oh well.
We loved the clothespin idea and used it a few times yesterday. We decorated it when we got home so we would know that was the special one and not one of the zillion we have for laundry. It is such a great idea. You can tell that Sandie and Joe work very hard at their relationship and they really are very much in love. It was really nice to see.
