interfaith weddings

so I found out today that we have a slight problem. Im catholic and FH is jewish, we were planning on getting married at the interfaith chapel at cw post. When i called them today the lady informed me that they only book 9 months prior bc the chapel is mostly used for the campus student groups and campus events. She said they need to keep it open for the campus and i asked if its used often and she said yes its heavily used. I then asked if its open during the winter break and she said no it wouldnt be avalible during breaks because the campus is closed!!
What do I do???
I didnt want to get married at the RH, my father said the one thing he wants is for me to get married in a place where he can walk me down the aisle
Does anyone have any ideas where we can have an interfaith ceremony...someplace with an indoors option due to the weather concerns

Many halls do have an aisle, but there is also the historical chapel in woodbury, have you tried there?

We were in this situation as well. I really liked the Chapel @ CW post but opted against it b/c my older guests never would have made it up those stairs. I think that your only other option is the Historical Chapel in Woodbury but you should def go look at it with your FH b/c they do have a cross at the altar even though it is supposed to be Non-denomenational. That was a no-go for my DH, who is Jewish. I don't know, maybe you can ask them to remove it? We ultimately decided to get married outside at my RH.

Re: interfaith weddings

i wanted the chapel at cw post but they dont book untill 9 moths before and said that their primary use is for camus events and that its used often so I dont want to rely on it. We looked at the historical chapel and didnt like it, we felt like we were in vegas and it was way too small. It doesnt seem like we have alot of options. I wanted a fall wedding but that eliminates the possibility of having it outside at the RH...maybe we should change the date and make it earlier that way its warm enough...

Yeah, it's an idea if you are able to make it earlier.
My wedding was 9/29 & it was still warm & sunny.

Re: interfaith weddings

Some reception halls actually have indoor chapels apart from the reception area. Two that I know of are the Watermill and the North Ritz Club. Maybe East Wind ... One of the wineries out east has an art gallery that can also be used as a chapel.

We opted to have our ceremony at the reception hall. They were able to set up the room for us so that we had an aisle and everything.

Good luck with finding a place that you love!

i have been to several weddings where the ceremony also took place at the RH.
they set up a seperate room like a chapel with an aisle.

My husband is Jewish also, and I am Lutheran. We chose an interfaith wedding just because neither of us is religous.
I got married at North Rize club and they have a separate chapel for the ceremony. They also have a dedicated outdoor location for the ceremony.
It rained on my day, so we were married indoors.
There is still quite a nice aisle to walk down, iwth a structure at the end that can be used as a chuppah.

Watermill does not have a separate chapel, rather they section off part of the reception area with very nice drapes and set up chairs. The aisle is actually the dance floor. Done very nicely.
Outdoor ceremony is possible too.

A lot of RH set up the reception room as the ceremony site, some do it nicer than others.

I am Jewish, my hubby is Catholic ... we also got married at the North Ritz Club. We really wanted an outdoor ceremony, but the weather was way too cold for that ... so we got married inside.

We liked NRC because they have a totally separate room for the ceremony, they don't re-use another room. Our two other top choices for reception halls had this problem in the colder months (Flowerfield & The Carltun).

This is how the indoor ceremony room at North Ritz looked for our wedding:

my FH is jewish and i was raised catholic and we are doing our interfaith ceremony at our RH--Swan Club. they have an outdoor 'pavillion' for the ceremony and it actually has a long aisle--that was why we picked it! i think it's the best of both worlds b/c technically you are still outside, but you are covered in case it's cold or rains. there are pics on their website if you want to check it out. good luck! i'm sure you'll find somewhere great!

Have you booked your RH yet? Most will have an area for ceremonies to take place for a fee. FYI, we got married at Crest Hollow CC and there is an garden area with gazebo and outdoor patio that was set up with an aisle. The RH should also have a back up plan in case of poor weather and be able to set up inside.

Do you realize that you cna get married IN the church, if that's what you want? You have to attend inter-faith Pre-Cana, complete an inter-faith dispensation (priest does this, basically the Catholic signs promises that any children from the marriage will be raised Catholic). Depending on how liberal the rabbi is or cantor, they will come into a Catholic Church to marry you.

If not, there are exceptions to the rule (lie catering halls, non-denominational places, etc.) This is often the case because many rabbis will not come into a church and a priest will not enter a synagougue. Unfortunately, i don't know of any alternate places... but just wanted to make you aware that you can still have your marriage recognized by the Catholic Church as a Sacrament for you if that's what you want... there are just a few steps (mentioned above) that you must do. If it's not IN a church, it can still be a Sacrament for you provided that you do the above and the the priest or deacon is present at the hall or wherever you decide to do it.

That's an excellent point, I forgot to mention. We went through the interfaith pre-cana, and the marriage is recognized as a sacrament for my husband.

Our Priest was Monsignor Lisante.

Re: interfaith weddings

We booked the CW Post and did not get any of that information, sometimes the people there can misinform you, try calling back and speaking to Brandon Carey, he has been super sweet!
If not try, Coe Hall at the Planting Fields, we loved it there but they are closed for our weekend for a Spring Festival.
HTH!
