Not legal for someone to get married in NYS by Internet ordained or not legal to become internet ordained in NYS?
I read on theknot (I think it was there) a notary can marry people - is that true in NYS?

Re: Internet Ordained
If a person is ordained over the Internet, they by law cannot officate a ceremony in NYS. It's not legal.
I am not sure about the notary thing- but I have never seen a marriage license come back to the office with someone who is a notary officiating. (I work in a Town Clerk's Office and I am in charge of the marriage licenses.)

Re: Internet Ordained
Drmnblnd - are you sure that it is illegal in NY State? FH has been doing research and seems to think it is only not legal in New York City.

Re: Internet Ordained
I thought it was legal in NY but I'm not sure. I do know we thought about having a friend of ours marry us as she was ordained online to preform her brother's ceremony but she said that since she was a resident of MN not NY it wouldn't be legal in NY.
