Interviewing Advice

Interviewing Advice

Ok, this is my first time on the other side.
My company is hiring another full time software instructor, and I have moved into the position of training manager recently, therefore, this is now my responsibility.

I have a bunch of people coming in for interviews tomorrow, and I am not nervous, or concerned, I know they will be more nervous than I, however I was wondering if anyone had any advice for good questions to ask, etc...

Here are some of the questions I have been asked

Do you remember what attracted you to the ad for this position?

How do you use your time when your boss is out of town?

Tell me about a time when you had to sacrifice quality in order to meet a deadline

When have you been most satisified with your job?

Tell me about a time when you had a confrontation with a coworker or boss

Re: Interviewing Advice

Here's a list my office used when I was interviewed for my position. Don't know if they would apply for your situation, but hopefully it's a start!

- Give me an example of a project where you were not provided much information to get started.
How did it turn out?
How did you get the information you needed?

- Could you describe a relationship in the workplace that was difficult?
What did you do to try and create a better relationship?

- If you could acquire one skill or bit of job knowledge, what would it be?

- What would you expect from us to get you oriented or trained?

- Could you provide an example of a previous experience in which your training allowed you to become productive and valuable?

- If you could change one thing that is inefficient at your current job, what would it be?

- Would you say that your current job allows you to create something new rather that carrying out established procedure?
What type of position would you prefer?

- Can you describe a time when you were criticized at work?
How did you react?
When have you felt over-criticized?

Re: Interviewing Advice

the best advice i can give is to remember that the interviewee is probably more nervous than you are - and to let the conversation flow.

Re: Interviewing Advice

Yeah, I am definitely more interested in having a conversation with the candidates than shooting off questions at them, but if I could work a couple good meaningful ones at them that would be good too
