intivation questions-- wording ???
Need advice on wording--I've always been a feminist (not radical but forward thinking). both sets of parents will be hosting the wedding and both sets of parents are still married to one another. The typical invitation would say:
Mr. and Mrs. John Smith
Mr. and Mrs. Michael Jones
request the honour of your presence...
blah blah blah
I have never really liked that wording because it does not contain the mother's names anywhere and to me it makes the mothers seem like their identity does not matter. So I considered listing the parents by name:
John and Jane Smith
Michael and Myrtle Jones
request the honor of your presence
blah blah.
These are my concerns:
1. by using the first and last names and not saying 'Mr. and Mrs' will people assume that our parents are no longer married?
2. My invitation printer said that the way I am considering is much less formal (it's a Sat. night. black tie optional wedding). I did not think it changes the formailiy of it. Do you agree?
I just don't like women only being referred to only as Mrs. (husband's name) and I want to see our mom's names in print, but now I have all these questions!!!
I know, you'll tell me it's my wedding, do what pleases me? Or will you tell me not to worry about my mom's first name????
BTW--Our parents don't have a strong opinion on this and they think no one will pay attention to their names (maybe right!?)
