Re: Invisible Pet Fence
if you get one are you going to keep the regular fence too? I went house hunting once and the next door neighbor had only an invisible fence, we were freaked out that it was going to attack us

Re: Invisible Pet Fence
Well the way my house is we have our immediate back yard fenced in but we want to put in a nice yard and a pool. It is also where we are going to have our daughter learn to walk. The house is on about an acre. We were going to keep the dogs outside of the pool fence which would put them back further down (we have no neighbors in the back of us) the property and in the driveway. There are no neighbors that would be affected. We are going to keep the invisible fence in the back.
Since the dogs didnt get you I guess the fence worked...

Re: Invisible Pet Fence
I pet sat for a couple who had one of the invisible fences. The dog was a black retriever and basically pretty well trained. I think that helps anyway. We didn't have any problems with him going through it, but the owners did say that, every once in a while, if he really wanted to, he would just go through and I guess, deal with the shock.

Re: Invisible Pet Fence
We had it, and it didn't really work....when our dogs saw something they really wanted, like a squirrel or a person on the other side of the 'electricution fence' they just jumped through it and got the shock, it didn't matter. I've heard of a lot of animals getting burns and things from just repeatedly shocking themselves.

Re: Invisible Pet Fence
It is great! We had it for our lab and it totally solved the problem of him running away. As a behaviorist (I am a clinical psych doctoral student) I am certain that the invisible fence applies the laws of learning appropriately. Most dogs will only need to be shocked once or twice. In terms of dogs passing it (as the other post mentioned), all you need to do is increase the electrical current. I highly recommend it!

My aunt has it (where she lives you are not allowed to have regular fences) so she has that and she says its great, however i heard it doesnt work well with big dogs cause they can take the shock..
