invitation addressing

invitation addressing

Tomorrow I'm going to get invitations and planning to spend the day printing the addresses on envelopes..yay!! LOL, I just have a question: I don't want to address the married couples as Mr. and Mrs. John Doe. I was planning to just do: John and Mary Doe

Is that okay or should it be Mr. John and Mrs. Mary Doe.

Any ideas?

Re: invitation addressing

The correct way to address a married couple when sending an invitation to a formal event is:

Mr. and Mrs. John Doe

There is no other proper way.

If you are having an INFORMAL / CASUAL wedding, and you would like guests perceive your wedding as a casual event, you can address a married couple as:

Mary and John Doe

Addressing them as Mr. John and Mrs. Mary Doe is not correct.

If they're married it should be Mr. and Mrs. John Doe. I guess it depends how formal the invitation is. If its very casual I guess you could leave out the Mr & Mrs and just put the names. If it's a formal invitation then I would just put the 'proper' wording. People probably won't notice either way though so do what you like best.

I don't think that is true ... I notice these things, and most people that I know also notice.

I think that if they are married it should be Mr. and Mrs. Husband's first name and last Name......just seems like the right way to do it for a formal invite.

I agree, I think people would notice! But maybe that's just me.... Unless it's super casual I would use the Mr & Mrs

wow, ok, glad I asked! LOL..I just thought it was weird not to have the woman's name! That seems so impersonal but I guess I have to get used to it..in a few months I'm losing my first and last name as well: )

Thanks girls!

You can do the addresses anyway you want.

some do it formally with the mr & mrs.....some do the casual.

it's your choice.
