invitation advice (duplicate)

invitation advice (duplicate)

If some of you ladies have seen this already, I apologize ... it's on 2 boards ...

I am going to scream over this 'guest list' BS!

First things first ... after my father passed away last year, I decided that people who missed the wake (or weren't there for the family) were coming off the A-list. It hurt, but it knocked about 20 people off.

My aunts (my father's sisters), who couldn't be bothered to at least send a holiday card for the past 5+ years were never a thought on my guest list. Suddenly, at my fathers wake, they realized they were family ... but I haven't heard from them since. My mother now feels it would be proper to invite them, whether we like them or not. If we invite these 2 aunts, we have to invite their kids, giving me an extra $1300 worth of plates!

I'm trying to minimize the guest list as much as I can, and then FH goes and tells me we 'MUST' invite a few people who are parents of his friends - I can't even invite all my family! I'll be damned if I'm going to invite these people I don't even know!

Topping it all off, a coworker of mine just had his wedding the other night. I feel I can't invite people without guests, but how do I cut back at work? The people invited to his wedding should all be invited to mine as well - we are all close, and I don't want to hurt anyone's feelings at work.

AAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!

Sorry for the long rant ... I'm having enough trouble paying for the A-list guests, and now my B-list has to grow?? I can't deal ...

The rule is usually if you haven't talked to the people for 6 months to a year, then you don't have to invited them. Also, if you haven't talked to them, chances are they won't notice they haven't been invited. And as for the & guest situation, FH and I are sticking to if it's a long term significant other then they get the & guest, if not then sorry. Unless they're part of the wedding party. You could also B-list the people you aren't sure about and only invite them if enough people RSVP no.

I totally agree with your rules, which is actually why I am having such a problem, lol ... All of my coworkers invited are in long-term relationships. The family my Mom feels I should invite are the ones I neer hear from - but they are immediate family.
