Labels. A wedding is a very personal occasion and as such each invitation envelope should be addressed by hand. Do not, under any circumstances, use labels to address your envelopes. Hire a calligrapher if you can afford one. If not, perhaps a family member or friend who has a particularly nice handwriting could help you with this task. Wedding envelopes are always addressed in black ink.
I found this under articles under invitation donts'. What do you think about this? FH and I need to save on cash and would liketo print up some clear labels to put on the envelopes. Is this really that bad?

Re: Invitation Dont ?
To be honest, I would never notice, the envelope goes right in the garbage for us...
I might notice since I'm getting married and have it on my mind, but I couldnt tell ya what they did for any wedding invites I'd ever gotten....I hate to say calligraphy is a waste because its pretty and a lot of people do it...but I know that I can;t spend the money on it, and if I did my own, iit would look horrible!

my friend did this with her invitations and the lady at the post office could not believe it was done with a computer!! I think labels are sloppy and some people do notice them!! I did when they were sent to me and I also noticed that the ink was smeared on the label. But I guess that means I have a lot of time on my hands!!

Re: Invitation Dont ?
I used clear labels and a nice font on my invites and they came out great. No one complained and it did not smear. I don't think anyone notice the clear labels.

I honestly don't think it's that bad a thing. I honestly probably wouldn't notice if I received an invitation with a label.

IMO labels or computer calligraphy it is def. a 'Don't' Invites are the first impression your guests will have of the wedding.

I did my entire invitation and envelope on my computer. None of my guests believed it, and since they were almost all family, they would have told us if it was noticeable (our families are like that).
I would try to do it directly on the envelope with a computer if you can. Otherwise, if it's a matter of saving money, do the clear labels. If people have a problem with you using labels, they clearly have too much free time to think of things to be bothered by.

Re: Invitation Dont ?
Yes, that's the proper etiquette. In reality though, nobody will really notice or care. No one is going to call the etiquette police to come and get you and 20 years from now, when you are celebrating your anniversary, I highly doubt that anyone will bring up the fact that your invites were not done by hand. Bottom line is, it doesn't really matter that much and if it's going to cause you undue stress or expense, cut it. My invitations will be scrolls so there IS NO ENVELOPE to hand write on... I'd like to see a calligrapher try to do a nice job on these mailing tubes!!! It's labels for me and let the etiquette police come and get me!!

Do whatever works out best for you. I honestly could not tell you what the adress looked like on the last wedding invitation I got. I opened it and it and the envelope went into the garbage.

Re: Invitation Dont ?
if someone has enough time to notice and complain about a clear label on the envelope of their invitation then I feel they have too much time on their hands... do whatever works best for you...

Re: Invitation Dont ?
We printed the invites and the envelopes one by one on the computer -- they came out lovely. Etiquette, schettiquete. It's only really important if it hurts someone else if you don't follow it....

Re: Invitation Dont ?
Rebecca at Favorite Invites did computer calligraphy for me for 1.00 per set for inner and outer; and they came out beautiful!
I figured since I'm already over budget, whats another dollar per invite!

Re: Invitation Dont ?
I don't give a rats a$$ about etiquette LOL You saw the post with my invites, right? Very non-traditional... and we addressed the envelopes ourselves in the good old LASER PRINTER! We ran the envelopes right through, easy peasy. I think labels will be absolutely fine, but why not see if your printer can take the actual envelope?

Re: Invitation Dont ?
I dont think its a big deal at all. I made my labels for my e-party. Who cares? I don't. I'm paying for it.

Re: Invitation Dont ?
I am going to try to do the envelopes through my printer, but it just ate some envelopes I was using for my e-party thank yous, so I was thinking of other ways to address the envelopes without spending more money.
But then again, I can more that likely, use the laser printer at work. That one is great with envelopes.
But now I won't feel bad if I need to use the labels. Thanks ladies.

Re: Invitation Dont ?
I had friends who did this and I didnt even notice until I was getting ready to write mine out and they told me. When I told my mom this is what I wanted to do, she flipped. So, I ran them through the printer with a nice font and they actually came out gorgeous.

Re: Invitation Dont ?
I think labels look gross and tacky. it's just as cheap to print form the comptuer right on your enelopes. I did this for my sister's shower and for her B list and you couldn't tell mine from the professional. It doens;t have to eat envelopes, print tests on regular paper and line up the position with a real envelope..Once you get the positioning right, all you have to do it type in the addresses. it takes awhile, but, in my opinion it's worth it, because I really think those clear labels look gross and cheap!
ETA: So I don't really insult anyone....The reason a lot of them look bad is that the inkjet printers have raised ink and it can run, plus the labels look shiny and realy stand out from the envelope. I think a gold or silver label might look better. i think it's more professional looking to do it on envelopes. Granted tho, if I get a label on a wedding invitation, I only notice it for 2 seconds and then i don't really care!
