Do any of you ladies know if there is a proper way to decide if you allow plus ones for certain people.
Like do I have to give EVERYONE a plus one?

we're giving everyone a guest.. but that's because we're scared we won't make our minimum. if you don't want to give everyone a guest maybe just give the ones who are in a relationship a guest? this way you don't have people bringing randoms

Re: Invitation etiquette (sp)
I think etiquette says you only need to invite a guest if the person you are inviting is seeing someone seriously. And really, you don't NEED to invite guests if the person you are inviting is not married. However, if I was invited to a wedding and my FH wasn't - even if it was before we were engaged - I would be offended.
So - I would invite guests only for those in a serious relationship. It's easier on the guests too - some people find it stressful to ask a guest to a wedding if they are not dating seriously!

We gave +1 to people we knew were dating someone for awhile. We also gave to people that wouldn't know anyone else.

Technically, anyone who is over the age of 18 (and thus considered an adult) gets a seperate invitation than their parents, and gets invited with a guest.
However, it is also acceptable to only invite someone with a guest if they are in a serious relationship.

I am inviting everyone with a guest. Do you put and Guest on the outside envelope or just on the inside.
I was going to put on the outside envelope Mr. _______ address
and on the inside Michael and Guest
Is that the correct way of doing it?

yes- you're right it goes on the inside envelope- if you know the guest's name (like its a serious relationship) you can put that on the inside instead of 'and guest'

Re: Invitation etiquette (sp)
It depends on how big you want your guest list to be. We did plus ones for people who we knew were in long-term relationships or living together. Also plus ones for everyone in the BP as a courtesy, and anyone who may not know a lot of people there. As long as you're consistent across the board, I think you're safe.

I'm giving all my single guests plus one, since we don't have that many single guests. I'd feel weird not to anyway

Re: Invitation etiquette (sp)
I am only inviting plus ones for people who are engaged or living with the person, if I did it any other way I would have over 400 guests and I can't afford that. Most people won't have a problem with it, and if they do, too bad for them. There are one or two adults, my FH uncle and cosin that i am letting bring a guest, but not my peers.

I'm only inviting people with guests if they are actually in relationships.

Re: Invitation etiquette (sp)
We are not inviting 'with guest' unless they are living together, married, engaged, or in a LONG term relationship (like over 2 years). FH has a lot of cousins and we are not letting them invite guests if they are not serious about them....we have a limited space and we are paying $149pp, so the less the people the better....but you have to decide what is best for you.

Re: Invitation etiquette (sp)
Usually, you either give plus one to everyone or you only give the plus one if the person you want to invite has been in a long standing relationship with that person
I invited everyone with guests, expect the girls from work because there were too many people from work.

Re: Invitation etiquette (sp)
You just have to use your judgment. Is my 80+ year old aunt going to bring a guest? No. Should I write it anyway? Yes.
You're not expected to know the flavor of the week, but it's ok not to invite with a guest.
