Invitation Etiquette...Please help
Fi has an uncle through marriage (his wife was fi's aunt by blood, but she died about 5 years ago). The uncle has 3 sons. I met fi because I used to work for the oldest son, but that ended in a very bad way.
First issue: The uncle brought a 'friend' to his oldest son's wedding. Fi refuses to allow his uncle to do this at our wedding because he thinks it would be an insult to his aunt's memory. (But, the guy brought a date to his own son's wedding...HELP)
The oldest son will get his own invitation because he is married and he and his wife live out on their own.
Whenever the oldest son had an event, his wife would address one invitation to Fi's mom as 'Mrs. Mary Smith and family.' Fi and I were vocal about the fact that we found that offensive because we were never referred to by name and because I am not 'and family.' (This became an issue because the guy would tell other people that I am not family, but tell fi's mom that I was included in the invite).
Here's the next issue: The other 2 sons never RSVP'd to our e-party. They have both moved out on their own, but never gave us their new addresses (we asked for them over the summer because we wanted to send B-Day cards).
So, here we are, running VERY low on invites. I can't order more. So, we were thinking of sending the uncle an invite and writing 'Michael, Anthony, and Robert' on the inner envelope.
Would that be hypocritical?
