Invitation Ettiguette Do's and Don't's

Original post by Utopia923

Good morning!

I just got my proof in the mail from Tessa and I'm in love!!

Since I am now over-budget, I'm trying to do as much DIY stuff as I can.

In the quote for the invitation, she charged me $65 for addressing services. Here's my plan for DIY'ing this. Tell me if this is a 'no-no or 'sure, why not!'

My parents have a return address stamp that they use - it's written in script, and it says 'Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth...' with our address underneath it.

I was thinking of using this for the return address on the main envelope AND the 'to' address on the RSVP envelope.
Then I'm planning on just handwriting the guest's addree on the main envelope. I'm planning on calling my 2 MOH's over and have them do it - they have really pretty handwriting.

Can I do this? TIA!

I think that if it's going to save you money and that is your goal, then go for it. I printed on the envelopes from my home computer. I diy'd my invites. Obviously it's a personal choice and no one but you knows the circle of people you're inviting. I think you're asking this question to see who may think your idea is tacky. You know your friends and family best and if it's about impressing them, you need to ask yourself if THEY would think it's tacky. Are they the type to pay attention to these things? I only ask because my circle of friends and family could care less. Most of them either threw the invites in garbage by now or don't even know where they are. They were so impressed that I did my own invites and not one person had anything to say about the addressing of the envelopes. So it just really depends on what's more important to you...saving money or having the 'complete package'. If you decide to spend the extra money, like the other poster said $65 is not alot of money when you look at what you're spending overall. But only you know what your pockets can spare.

I am DIY the addresses myself but using my Home computer...You should think into that...And have the stamp on the back becuase I tried to put the back through the computer and it didnt look good...

ITA.... if hand calligraphy is out of budget, look into calligraphers that do the computer printing instead, it's usually affordable. Doing a DYI on the computer is the next best thing, but only if your printer is higher quality.

I'm sure your friends have good handwriting but if they make one mistake it will look sloppy. You put a lot of time and money into those invites!!! Give them the care they deserve! :) JMO. I am a bit of a stationery snob and I DO look at the way an invite is presented in the mail.

HTH!!

ETA: DEF stamp the return address on the back.
