Invitation Frustration-beware of square invitations!!!!

I was so excited that my invitations arrived & the store is doing the caligraphy for me! They came out beautiful.

Until today...

I had the post office weigh the response card & found out it is .64 cents. Supposedly there is a .20 cent surcharge because it's square. Ok I can deal with this.

Then I had the whole invitation weighed at my local post office (Long Beach) & they gave me 3 different amounts. They couldn't figure it out! First they told me $1.56 then $2.19 then $1.22. They were pretty sure it was $1.22 though. So I went over to Island Park & they were very confident it was $1.56-they told me because the invitation is not 'regulation' (ie. its square) its considered a package.

Who do I believe? Plus Long Beach will not let me hand cancel them-they say they will do it. But I remember hearing about a girl who was told this & they didn't do it & her beautiful invitations were all messed up from the machine. Island Park will hand cancel it in front of me or let me do it depending on how busy it is.

Sorry for the long vent I'm just so frustrated-its going to cost me $508 for postage because I have to go through Zazzle.com. The post office doesn't make wedding stamps in the denominations I need.

Oh yea for the girls who are thinking of wax sealing the envelopes-the post office charges extra for that too!

i know what you are going through. mine are square and i paid 1.22 for each. they gave me 2 61 cents stamps the 61 cent stamps are actually the wedding cake. if i were you i would keep going to different post offices until u get a common amount between all because if you happen to put the wrong amount it , they will are be returned and you will have to do it all over again. where are you located ?

is there any way that you can maybe go to the city to a post office there to see what they tell you. i live on staten island. there arent many post offices here but i went to 2 and they both qouted 1.22. i would just hate if you put the wrong postage .

Mine were square pocket folds and they cost $1 each to mail. I didnt use a wedding stamp. Money meant more to me than having a wedding stamp and no one noticed.

Yeah, i think all post offices need to go to some kind of training class so they can all be on th same page.

So frustrating! It took 3 people and they still couldn't agree on the price. I like the city idea. FH works in the city-I'll see if he can bring one. I was also thinking of going to garden city-there is a very large post office there I think it's like a main hub or something. I don't want them to all come back either.

I'm sorry you're having all these problems with postage

Garden City Post Office probably wouldn't be a bad idea... just be prepared.. anytime I have been there, they have been incredibly rude to me.

I took my sample to the post office and they told me .82cents (they're square too).. Should i bring them to another post office to re-check?

How are they all charging different prices? That's crazy ... Sorry you have to deal with this - guess this is what I have to look forward to.

I would do a test run mailing on to ur self or a close friend to see if the postage amount u go with works

Make sure it has all the inserts-rsvp + envelope, directions, reception card etc. and is in the envelope (esp. if you have a double envelope). I only checked somewhere else because the 1st post office was so confused. But I don't think it's a bad idea to get a 2nd opinion. I would never have thought of it.

Are they pocketfold invites that are 6 1/4 x 6/14?

Those were my size and it cost me $1.05 for each invite. Bethpage post office lets you do hand cancel.

Let me know if you have any questions....

I have square invites, but i knew when i was ordering them that the postage was going to be more than usual, it just stinks that you have to go to muliple post offices to get an answer from someone

Mine were square pocketfold with a rhinestone buckle (pic in album). I paid $1.51 befor the postage increase in May and $1.56 after. They told me that it weight 3 oz with the double envelopes and all the inserts (inserts had cover weight cardstock backing!). They also need to be hand canceled due to the rhinestone buckle.
