What should the inside of the invitation say on the envelope? Ex. Mr. & Mrs. John Doe. or John Doe and Jane Doe?

depends on the situation...if the parents are divorced DON'T put 'Ex' anywhere..I think it justs sounds bad. I'd put their names separate if the woman changed her last name you can use the maiden name or new name.

No, I mean how there is an inside and outside envelope, for the calligraphy. Does the inside envelope read like the outside?

Re: Invitation help?
If the people where married, the inside envelope was Mr. and Mrs. John Doe. It was the same for the front of the invitation as well. I think if you wanted to put their first names, that would be okay too. Jane and John Doe would sound fine.
For unmarried people, I would have Jane Doe on the outside, and the inside would either say Jane Doe and Guest, or if I new the name it would say Jane Doe and John Smith.
The invitation shop printed my Addresses out, and they typed it up as Mr and Mrs John Doe, so that must be the proper way.

Re: Invitation help?
Not sure if this is what you are asking, but we decided to go informal with our close family/friends....
Mr. & Mrs. X Last Name on the outside & then
Brian and Tricia inside
Only if they are close with us
We're also doing that with our parents & siblings, etc.

Re: Invitation help?
we put Mr & Mrs. Last name on the outer
and John & Jane Last name on the inner
if we invited a guest we put Jane Lastname & Guest on the inner...
