Invitation wording

I need some help. My FMIL has a couple of guests that she wants to invite but does not know who they are bringing. How would you word the invitation would you just put Mrs. Smith and guest or would you just have Mrs. Smith?

The outside envelope I would put Mrs. Smith and the inside envelope, Mrs. Smith and guest
