Invitation Wording

Invitation Wording

FI and I are trying to figure out how to word our invitations properly but don't want to come across as rude. We're paying for the wedding ourselves so we're not going to mention parents. In addition, we want to make sure it's clear that it is adults only (very important bc lots of FI's relatives have kids) and that it's blacktie.. I've found some mention on etiquette boards about putting 'Blacktie' at the bottom right-hand corner of the invite to notify clueless folks but we're not sure about the children issue. I'll also be setting up a website for RSVPs (as an option in addition to the RSVP card).
Wondering if anyone has suggesions (especially about the children issue). If so, please post or FM me.

TIA for your help.

Re: Invitation Wording

Are you having seperate reception cards?
If so I suggest putting ' Adult reception to follow' on the top of the card and then having the reception info..

As far as the Black tie issue is preferred. I really don't think its correct to 'demand' guests to be black tie.. which they may assume if you just put 'Black tie' on the invitations..
How about ' Black Tie invited' they will still get the idea that it is very formal but wont feel as pressured to rent tuxes, etc. IMO

Im not sure if we're having sep. reception cards. The ceremony and reception are in the same place (so it may not be necessary).

Re: Blacktie, ...FI's relatives might show up in sneakers, shorts, and t-shirts if its not formally mentioned.. catch my drift?

I think you should put 'Adult reception....'
and as far as black tie if you are afraid that people wont get the drift put 'formal adult reception...'

Just and idea

My parents just went to a wedding and she showed me the invitation. THe reception card said 'Adult Reception.'
That's what I am going to do when it's time to do mine.

can you give me a little more detail? Where was 'Adult reception' placed on the reception card. Im still not sure abt the reception card but the invite might say something like 'Adult reception to immediately follow.' Not positive yet...

It just said it right on the top...

Adult Reception

The FountainHead..
[and then the address].

It looked perfectly fine and my dad showed it to me because he knew I was having a hrad time figuring out how to address the 'no kids' factor.

At first I was just not going to include the childrens names on the envelopes but I think that having 'adult reception' put on the reception card is much better.
This way there's no confusion and people don't respond 'Jack and I and little Johnny will be delighted to attend!!!'
lol.
