Invitation wording

Ok - I am in the process of deciding on the wording of our invites. We are not getting married in the church, we are getting married outside ... are we not supposed to use 'honor of your presence'? What other wording can I use b/c everything else I see I don't really like, such as:
mr and mrs X
invite you to share in their joy
or
mr and mrs x
request the pleasure of your company

These seem to casual for me b/c even though the wedding is outside, it is still a Saturday night. Any suggestions? Thanks!

Re: Invitation wording

I was thinking the same thing, why can't you use that?

Re: Invitation wording

After much debate, we are using- invite you to share in the celebration of their marriage. I just thought it sounded less formal and more our style.

Re: Invitation wording

I read somewhere that the phrase 'honor of your presence' is reserved for weddings taking place in a house of worship. Is this not true? I like honor of your presence the best but I didn't know if it was appropriate.

Re: Invitation wording

Well if thats the case, then I messed up! We used that phrase AND got married at our reception hall!! I say go with what you like. There are times when you have to throw away the etiquette books and do what YOU want to do!!!!!!
