My parents, FH and I are paying for everything wedding related...the in-laws are not giving a dime...so I want to have the traditional wording of
Mr and Mrs XX request the honor of your precense for the marriage of their daughter
ME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
to Mr FH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
at blah blah blah
now my mom thinks I cant 'disrespect his mom like that (his dad passed away a while ago). I say I like that wording and I dont care! Is that horrible? what are your opinions?

Re: Invitation wording
09'er chiming in, if you don't mind me asking, who is paying for the bulk of the wedding? If it's you and FH you could do something like I did on my invites. Put yours and FH's names first and then both the parents under. That way nobody really feels slighted.
My parents are paying for the entire reception...FH and I are paying for all the vendors....so its kinda 50% 50%

Re: Invitation wording
Yeah, me and FH have paid for about 80% of the wedding and his parents have kicked in the rest. My parents have given me about 2k. I put all names on the invite to keep the peace. It's the right thing to do.

Re: Invitation wording
I'll probably get myself in trouble here...but I totally agree with you. I wouldnt include them up top. At the most...maybe somewhere down below I would mention her...but certianly not position it as she is throwing the wedding.
I'm in the same situation. Parents are paying for most of the reception, my dress and invites...and FH and I are covering the rest. I dont plan on including his parents.

Re: Invitation wording
my mom thinks to keep the peace i should do
My parents request the honor of your presence at the wedding of me to FH son of FMIL that way it is kinda obvious she isnt paying since she isnt requesting anyones presence...hmmm gotta ask FH what he thinks of this...maybe he will have an opinion about wedding stuff this one time lol

Re: Invitation wording
i like the 3rd option, put your parents names up at top, then your names, and then 'son of mr and mrs. x'

Re: Invitation wording
I have the same issue with our invitations. I want to do it the traditional way also because my parents are paying for most of the wedding (so it would read just as you said). FH's parents are divorced and not really involved in his life so we aren't sure if we should include their names (son of ______). But we have been discussing it because we might do it out of respect and love to them. Think about it that way.

Re: Invitation wording
Honestly, I dont think it matters who is paying. Its still a marriage of you, your parents, and his parents. To me, you wouldnt say something like 'well, youre not paying so youre not allowed to walk fh down the aisle'. I think its very disrespectful not to include his mother in the wedding/the invitation, even if she's not paying. I dont see it as a parents responsibility to pay. Its a nice gesture if they do, but certainly not expected. JMHO.

Re: Invitation wording
first of all if my parents werent paying it would just say our names alone since we would be the ones throwing the party...invitation wording is supposed to describe who is throwing the party...read any book and it will tell you that. So to say it is disrespectful is kinda not right...IF we include her name it will just be out of kindness and nothing more since, according to the information it shouldnt be there

ITA. Me and FH are paying for it ourselves and I plan on just having our names and maybe thorowing in 'with their parents' But the parents names won't be on the invitation

Re: Invitation wording
i just think that the invitations should reflect who is hosting the party and if that were me and FH we would only be there but since it is my parents i think it becomes sticky. like i said on traci's post...i would have an easier time writing son of if some type of help was given...(and im not talking about money , but maybe some support and concern) but that is not the case and to say that what im thinking of doing is disrespectful kinda sets me off...especially when there is a science to writting these things.
