Invitation wording question

My wedding is at 5:00. On the invitation, should I have them write Five o'clock in the afternoon or evening? Right now it's afternoon, cause I figure it's not dark yet in September at 5:00, but his sister says it should be evening. I have to call the printer today if I want to change it. Thanks girls!

Technically it is still the afternoon....

evening begins at 6:00pm. At least that was what I was told when I did my invites. My cocktail hour was at 5:30 pm. I just left it as 5:30 with no afternoon or evening mentioned. So it said something like.... Cocktail hour beginning at 5:30 with reception to follow

Afternoon ....

Evening begins at the start of sunset. Don't laugh... but i stumbled on this site which predicts the sunset and sunrise of a day. It's http://aa.usno.navy.mil/data/docs/RS_OneDay.html. Your sunset is going to be around 6:59pm. Tip... if when you punch in the location it says 'no longitude or latitude', try another area nearby. LIke for me I couldn't find Bayside, but Floral Park in New York comes up. :)

Thanks girls!

I'm going to keep it as it is-afternoon. I also feel that evening starts around/after dusk. Again, I appreciate the help!

I would use 'evening'

I just think that 'evening' sounds better, and since most of your wedding will be at night, it sets the appropriate tone. Good luck with your planning!
