Invitation wording with deceased parents

Invitation wording with deceased parents

I'm hoping someone can give me some advice.... I've seen a lot of posts on here about invitation wording when parents are divorced and remarried. But I'm looking for wording that will include my mom and step dad AND my FH's parents but I also want to include my recently deceased dad. Any suggestions on wording?

I am not sure how to deal with that kind of thing, but what about putting something like

The honor of your presence is requested at the wedding of
YOUR NAME
daughter of the Mary Smith and the late John Smith
at whatever time in the afternoon...etc etc.

just my first thought...hope this gives you more ideas. im sorry about the recent loss of your father :(

Maybe....

Mr. and Mrs. Bob Stepdad
request the honour of your presence
at the marriage of
Jane Doe
the daughter of Mrs. Stepdad and the late Mr. Dad
to Mr. John Michael Doe
son of Mr. and Mrs. Craig Doe

also - i just wanted to say that i know you want to include FHs parents, your mom, stepdad and father - but including 5 names on the invite in adittion to yours and FHs could get crazy! remember that it is YOUR wedding! while everyone would like to be recognized for their 'contributions' to your big day, id keep the invites as simple as possible and find other special ways to recognize those who helped you get to your big day :)

Re: Invitation wording with deceased parents

Thanks for all of the advice everyone! It's so confusing. I know my mom would feel hurt (but not say anything) if I didn't include my stepfather. But this is the day my dad has been looking foward to my entire life. AHHH! I don't know what I am going to end up doing. But thanks for all of your help!

P.S:
My mom is going to walk me down the aisle but does anyone think it's weird if I ask my brother to dance to the father-daughter dance? Or should I just not have the dance at all?

my father passed away also.... i just put together with our parents... it just seemed the easiest way to go without insulting anyone..we did recognize my dad at our wedding though and i know he was there in spirit...

Just a suggestion. I am in somewhat of the same position you are...only my mother and my FH father passed away. Although we wanted to include them on the invitation we knew that we couldn't. My father is also remarried...This is what I chose to do for my invitations:

Mr. & Mrs. John Doe
request the honour of your presence
at the marriage of his daughter

my name
&
FH name

son of
Mrs. Jane Doe

day, date
year
time

reception dinner

We definitely want to include our parents so we will have them mentioned in our program and so everyone sees them we are having a picture of them at our placecard table with a candle in memory of them.

Just some suggestions so you don't have so much going on in your invite.

BUT I think you should do whatever you feel is right.

best of luck.

You never put a deceased parent on the invitation, because they cannot host the party.

Honor your dad in another way, mentioning him on the program, having a memorial candle.
I am doing this for my mom who passed away three years ago.

eta :
My wording is

Susanne R
and
Michael M
together with their parents
Hubert R (my dad)
and
Elaine and John K (his parents)
invite you to share and celebrate
etc.
etc.

I know this may be the 'proper' way to do things but I disagree...I'm putting my father on there...he was more excited about my wedding than I am and there is no way in hell I'm leaving him out...offend people or not, you need to do what you want to do...losing someone is not easy and those who haven't been there will never understand. Let them say what they will but do it your way...and the way you feel happiest.

You can do:

daughter of Mrs. (deceased parent name) and Mr. (stepdad)

i totally disagree (just my opinion) my dad will of course be included on my invites ... i wouldnt have it any other way. do what makes you feel comfortable and what makes you happy! this is your wedding and we already have to endure the day without the one we love, I will include my dad in any way that i can!!!

I just want to add that although it is 'technically' not correct to add the deceased parent as a 'host' you can put their name as 'brides name' daughter of 'Mrs. XXX and the late XXXX'. Just because your parent is deceased does not take away the fact that they are/were your parent.
Ultimately, I wrote 'daughter of Mrs. Deceased parent' but it was a personal decision. I would do what you feel seems best for your situation. In my situation my father passed away about 1.5 years ago and I didn't want to highlight the fact that he is not here.
