Re: invitations
it's absolutely possible...I made it a priority not to spend a lot of $$ on invites b/c people throw them out...I don't save wedding invites....the people who will save it will probably include me, my mother, and FMIL...and mine will be framed, so I wasn't too concerned about how thick the paper was or who made them.

Re: invitations
well for 100 invites its 750- but now I think I might need 125. Which would put me at close to 1k.
Crazy, I know, but I love them. I justify it by saying my dress was way under budget.

Here too... we ordered 165 for $1400 and my dress was under budget along with other things as well.

Re: invitations
I'm only doing 50, and I'm making them myself. Haven't ordered them yet, but priced out at Paper Source they should be about $120, plus ribbon and postage. The ribbon will be an important part to me, I'm going shopping in some of the good Manhattan shops like Mokuba to find something. I'm going to do Paper Source's folded diagonal enclosures, a separate invite, RSVP with envelope, and my venue gave us a map with directions to include. I work in publishing and have access to laser printers, including color (although I don't know if I'm going to bother) and access to pretty much every font ever, plus pretty much every ornament ever either already on the server or available to be scanned. I'm going to design it, print it, then put them together. Will save me a lot of money, I think it will be fun, and I'll have beautiful and completely unique invites. My wedding colors are navy and pale yellow, so as of right now, I'm going with Paper Sources' 'butter' color for the enclosure, outer envelope and invite text sheet: http://www.paper-source.com/cgi-bin/paper/3432480051.html?cm_id=2550.010
a navy cardstock for the invite (not from Paper Source, they don't have any navy), and their 'butter' RSVP kit. I'm going to shop for a navy ribbon, maybe striped, we'll see what I can find. I looked at the butter paper in Kate's Paperie (it's terribly expensive there) and held it against some of their plain navy ribbon, and it looked FAB. I'm also going to do Save the Dates with the butter scallop card and matching envelope:
I'll probably punch two small holes in the top, thread some ribbon through and tie a know, stamp 'save the date' on one side, and print the text on the other: ''Pencils and her fiance are tying the knot!' blah blah blah...
OK, longest post ever for a simple question. I'm sure that's all WAY more than you all wanted to know! But I just planned this out this week and I'm excited.

Re: invitations
Everything I seem to like is so pricey!! I never thought I would spend what I think I will be spending on invitations. For 100 invites, I will be paying probably around $750 or so. Ugghhh!!!

I love, love your invites! They are so pretty. they have almost served as inspiration for my DIY's.
I'm doing 75 Invotes and when all is said and done it will cost less than $200. Like other DIY'ers. It is the only way to get what you want at a lesser price.
