Invitations

Just wondering how everyone went about getting their invitations. I've looked at some books, but the prices seem high. I also looked on the internet, but I don't like the idea of buying them without actually seeing them and feeling the paper first. Is it really expensive to have them custom made? Basically I want very simple, nice quality invitations without spending a fortune on them and I would like to be able to see what I'm ordering. Any ideas? I looked at some of the vendors on this site, but I don't know what is considered a reasonable price for invites. Can you all share your experiences please? Thanks!

even though I am NOT using her, try Laura from LA Productions, a vendor on here. Alot of ladies are using her.

I had my invites custom made from www.gaddisdesign.com - I spent about $600 (cant remember exact price) which is a very good price for custom.

I am a big paper snob so even I would have spent about the same even if I didnt get them custom made because I would have ordered a high end invite.

You can spend anywhere from $100 to $2K for invites depending on what you want, the type of printing, the # of inties you need, the quality of paper and a million other variables.

I am using Laura from LA Productions, and she was great. She made us some samples of things we told her we would like. (All of which were great). We basically took ideas from a couple of invitations and made it into something new. She was very patient and willing to create anything I wanted, (which was not easy because I really cant make a decision about stuff like this). I found her prices to be reasonable. I am paying what I expected to pay. She makes custom invitations. I recommend her highly.

Helene, I have not made the final decision on where I am getting my invites, but I am considering ordering online. They give you the opportunity to order samples I have over 30 samples I received on line and they are free.

My future grandfather in law is a printer..

Do I have to bring him in samples of what I want and he will make it..

I got my invitations through an independant dealer on Staten Island. She works from her house so I know this may be inconvient for you...but she was wonderful. She has all of the most recent books. My invites are Regency. The paper quality is amazing, very heavy, and the cost total for 125 invites with double envelopes, the inner enveloped lined, and the outers printed with return addresses was $537.

I know that a lot of the dealers who deal from the books give 20% off the book price, so you never really pay the price listed in the book. If you go to a place that doesn't offer the 20% off, go somewhere else!

I used Rebecca from Favorite Things, she is a vendor on this site.

I cant say enough about her, She is wonder and so personable. We did everything over the internet and telephone since she was pretty far from me, would have loved to me her though.

Mistyeyed - I thought they should be giving a discount off of the book prices. No one has offered that yet. I guess I should ask for it, huh?

I know that places like Party City and Hallmark etc. give it, but their books are so old and cruddy. My dealer had the brand new books.

You may want to try one of the higher end stationary stores too. They should stock newer books. I know there is a good one in Roosevelt Field, and one in the Broadway Mall.

Do you mean the Hallmark in Roosevelt Field or a different store? I looked at Papyrus. Ho w are they? I didn't even think to ask about a discount. Someone should really tell you these things!

I meant Papyrus....I'm not sure what the store is called in the Broadway Mall.

When in doubt..ASK! One thing I've learned with all this planning is that you have to open your mouth for results!

I am using reaves engraving. They have a website and they send you samples. I also had them send me photocopy proofs before printing. I wanted some simple panel invitations but I wanted good quality, heavy paper. I am paying 578 for 175 invitation, receptions cards, and response cards with return address printing on the outer envelope and response card envelope. This is the best price I have found for the quality.
