I'm a little depressed. I thought that the invites were the one thing that I could save on, but between the actual invites, the addressing, the mailing, it still seems pretty pricey. Do you mind me asking, where did everyone get their invitations, and how much are you paying?

I'm definitely cutting costs on my invites. I found a free template online, personalized it with our names, info, and colors, and uploaded it to Vistaprint (did the RSVPs too--the website has whole invitation suites). I found a 50% off coupon for Vistaprint, so that helped. And I plan on doing the addressing myself and printing right onto the envelope from the computer.

They won't be the most impressive invites, but I can't see spending so much money on something that will end up in the garbage. I'd rather put that money towards something else.

totally agree, did this myself. I bought a groupon - 17 for 70 and then they give you special pricing.

I want pocket fold invites, and i have a lot of little extra things (the hotel, the after-party and the post-wedding brunch), so i figure the only way to get everything on the invite without it looking bad is with the pocketfold...but they are expensive! I'm already spending SO MUCH on this wedding...I feel that i'm going to spend another 2-3K on paper that will get thrown out....its really sad

I bought a DIY kit at Michaels and printed them up at home myself. I agree - invitations are not an area that I wanted to spend money. I was not able to print the big envelopes at home, only the response card envelopes - for the big envelopes, I used Nicole at weddingink.net and she had the best prices around. There is no way around the cost of the stamps - unfortunately....

For those girls that are doing their own, how much are you spending? I am finishing my post masters degree and my fiance is doing his masters as well and we are so busy that time is also an issue (of course). I found invites that I really liked that would be about $500 for 100 with addressing and postage. Is that crazy?

i think its 65cents for big envelopes?
my invites are being made for $2 per. i figure if i do the addressing it will be an extra $1 at MOST depending how much i do. and this is super cheap from what i've found. $5 including both postages (out & rsvp) sounds great!!

David's Bridal is very reasonable. I got 150 invites, response cards, hotel inserts, inner lined and inner and outter addressed for about $600. Someone had posted something about a digital calligraphy vendor who also addressed envelopes for even cheaper than DB. I think it was about $60 cents each DB charges $1. So you could go that route too.

Re: invitations

I ordered from http://www.theamericanwedding.com/ primarily because they had the only invitation that met my vision. I used a promo code and got 175 invitations for $370 (this included 175 invites, 175 response cards, 205 inner envelopes, 205 outer envelopes with return address printed, and 175 response card envelopes with return address printed). I printed my envelopes myself-- while in the midst of finishing my doctoral dissertation-- and everyone keeps asking my mom who did our calligraphy. If I can do a good job while I am losing my mind with stress anyone can do it lol. It took a long time but it was definitely worth it. I used this font, in case anyone is looking for a good one.... http://www.dafont.com/jellyka-beesantique-handwriting.font

I worked with Jessica Rini. Her work is amazing, she is a pleasure to collaborate with and her prices are reasonable. People have been raving about our invite they were completely custom and they looked like we spent way more than we actually did. My mom also hired her to do my shower invites (which were adorable!) and I will be using her for my programs and monograms.
Check her out!
