invitations- hand canceled??

HI Gals,

can someone tell me what this means??
I've seen it here a few times and didn't know what it meant.
Thanks.

If you bring your invitations into the post office they will cancel the stamp by hand rather than putting it through the machine. This way your invitations are in better condition when they get to their recipient. If you put them in the mail box they will go through a machine and get the lines on them by the stamp.

Some envelopes get 'eaten' by that machine and some get 'lost' also. The ones that have ribbon or gems on the outside are the ones that can get eaten (they can get stuck) so you definitely want those hand-stamped. I didn't have any ribbon or gemstones but I had mine hand-stamped anyway because I was paranoid and didn't want to take a chance that some ppl wouldn't get their invites

Re: invitations- hand canceled??

I was a total Bridezilla and asked if I could cancel them myself!!

They gave us the stamp and we did it ourselves!!!

(Actually DH did it while I added additional postage... I had my invite weighed at one PO and when I took them complete with postage to another PO to send them I was told that since the envelope wasn't bendable it was considered a parcel!! I could have taken the chance that they wouldnt come back but it was not worth the risk!)

Nothing is funnier than DH blowing on the stamps to dry them so they dont smudge while people look on....lol
