invitation in the inner envelope along with the directions to the hotel and catering hall etc all then placed in the outer envelope???? Do you write anything on the RSVP card such as the guests names or do they do that themselves? Any suggestions on this topic?

Leave the RSVP card blank. Your guests will fill them in. Everything else is fine. In addition to addressing the outer envelope, the names of the persons invited are written in the center of the inner envelope.
You may want to either fill your guests name in on the reply card or jot a corresponding number in pencil on the backside of the response cards...for those folks who forget to do it themselves.
The # on the back would correspond to a list you have of guest names...that's a little easier than handwriting everyone's name (which I did for my sister's wedding!). For example, your list would look like this: Jane Smith #62...the 62 would also go on the back of her reply card.
