INVITATION/SAVE THE DATE IDEAS!!!

Hello everyone, I just stumbled upon this website tonight, and I am hooked. I have been reading everyone's posts and have come across so much helpful advice. I was hoping that you all would be able to help me out with potential save the date ideas/invitation ideas.

We did our initial invitiation consulation at kate's paperie and were very dissapointed to see the high prices for the beautiful invitations. Since, i have done some online research and ordered some samples but they are all so flimsy and very unoriginal. So if anyone has any ideas, I am open for all of them.

As far as save the dates, we have been planning on doing magnets all along, but now that I recieved my sample magnet, I am not sure sure. Its very thin and flimsy as well. Does anyone have any creative, original, and fun ideas for save the dates that they did? Or maybe a magnet company that makes them thicker than the average?

Thank you guys so much and I am really looking forward to getting into this!

Congrats and welcome! I don't really have any ideas for you, but get ready for the addiction!!

I couldn't find any invites I liked in my price range so I ended up DIYing them....and we didn't do save-the-dates....but I'm sure some girls on here will have great ideas....girls?

I am actually doing the magents myself on power point and I bought the actual magnet at AC Moore. I could not find any magnets that I liked either on the computer.
Congrats on your wedding...:)

I got my save the date magnets at an ebay store -- kevinscustomcandywraps
They were business size, very cute, good quality, and only $80 for 100 with cardstock and envelopes. I think that was the best purchase I made!

Re: INVITATION/SAVE THE DATE IDEAS!!!

Hi there and welcome to the boards!!!!

I just completed my STDs using advice and techniques from many brides on the boards.

Here's what I did:

Went to Vistaprint.com and customized one of their free business cards for $9.99. Usually they are free (250 cards), but I wanted to be able to change fonts and move text around. With the slowest shipping possible (b/c we didn't need them right away), I paid a total of $16 for the 250 cards. I used a floral design that is different than my wedding colors, just because I liked it.

Then I went to Staples and bought their business-card size magnets for $22.99. Staples Business Card-size Magnets The magnets are thick and have a peel-off adhesive backing. They are very slightly larger than the business cards, probably by an 1/8th of an inch, so what I did was lined up one side and the top of the card with the magnet, pressed down hard and smoothed it out with the backing paper as a 'burnishing tool' to make sure the magnet really sticks, and then very carefully cut off the 1/8th-inch overhang with a very sharp scissor. I assembled all the STDs under bright lighting. That way I got a perfectly cut edge.

I'm still not sure how I'm going to send them out though, since Vistaprint doesn't provide envelopes for the business cards. A few LIW'ers have suggested using small party invitation/thank-you card size envelopes, but I haven't researched that yet. One warning that I found very helpful though is to NOT send business-card-size STDs in those small envelopes that are used by florists for the little cards that go with their flowers. One LIW bride-to-be learned the hard way after the post office said yes and then told her no when she tried to mail them. So she saved me from making the same mistake!

As for invitations, I've researched a bunch of places, but haven't decided on anything yet. We're on a tight budget since we're paying for our own wedding, so I've been looking for 'beautiful on a budget' type of things. Good quality for an even better price. Have you checked out Ann's Bridal Bargains and Invitations By Dawn ? You can order samples to get a feel for the quality. Also, some LIW'ers have also suggested going to Party City since they sell Birchcraft and other name-brand invitations for 30% off all the time. I have a Party City a few blocks away from me, and I haven't gone there yet to check it out for invitations.

I hope this helps!!
