Question: Because we want to keep out guest list small but not end up paying extra if half our guests decide not to come, we wanted to send our invites early to have time to do a second 'round' of invites to other people should our original invitees fail to RSVP in time.
How soon is too soon to send invites if our wedding date is July 29, 2006 and we want to have a final count NO LATER than three weeks before the wedding?
Should we dend them in March? April? And also, how long do you usually give people to RSVP?
Thanks.

Re: Invite etiquette question re: when to send
MM that sounds way too late for us because its a Sunday and people make plans for the summer. How long would we give them? Till June 1st and then send out more invites and demand them back by July 1st?

Re: Invite etiquette question re: when to send
I am sending mine out either the last week or April or first week of May and that will be about 8 weeks before the wedding. We are trying to stay close to minimum as well. I think March is way too early to send them out. (JMO) Did you send out STDs? If not, have people start spreading the word around. My RH said regardless of what day you have your wedding, the same people will probably wind up coming.

Re: Invite etiquette question re: when to send
Also - check with your reception hall about the date you need to have a final headcount that will help you set RSVP dates. Our initial RSVP date will be the first week of June and the second RSVP date will be the first week of July (so we have enough time to contact people who do not respond adnget your final headcount in)
OR
If you want to stay close to your minimum, every time you get back a no RSVP you can send out another initiation immediately (then no one knows they are on the 'B-list') Also then you do not have to worry about different rsvp dates. --> I might do this.

Re: Invite etiquette question re: when to send
Hmm that is an idea, summer-the non B list thing. So etiquette says we should give people a month to reply? Or more?
