OMG my FMIL got this invite in the mail Thursday from her nephew, my FH's cousin. They are having a destination wedding abroad in the bride's hometown/country. The invitation was sent I guess 4 or 5 days ago and the wedding was today ..heres where the shock value comes in.. there was a little tag attached to the invite and it said 'Must go dressed formal and in white. Gifts to the couple in cash please' No joke!! We were all shocked!
is it ok in other cultures dictate the kind of present you receive? She's latin and so am I..but I never heard of this..

Re: Invite Faux Pax!!
Wow! I had a cousin who wrote on the invite something about cash gifts preferred or something. Either way not at all appropriate to me! lol

Wow, that takes some serious balls. It is possible that it's a cultural thing though, at least I hope so!

There was an accompanying 'Memo' stating there will be a 'party' for those that didnt attend with the 4 days notice they gave and all ..my FMIL says let THAT be mentioned on the USA party and she'll give them a something in the envelope all right

Re: Invite Faux Pax!!
well the 2 invites that said that, i mean as bad as it was- i do understand they were living together and had toasters, dinnerware, did not need any of that house stuff, so i guess yea maybe cash would have been better, - but duh!!! everyone being invited kinda knew that and i was going to give them $$$ money anyway...for that reason ... but oh well

Re: Invite Faux Pax!!
I don't know about Latin cultures, but the last wedding I went was in Germany, and the couple send a cute poem in the invite saying they have everything they need so cash would be the best gift. So while it may be a major 'faux pas' in the US, its definitely not like that everywhere. And for all I know it might be totally acceptable in other places around the US..whats done in NYC is not the norm for everwhere...I think people tend to forget that.
