Invite Faux Pax!!

Original post by Ericab1980

OMG my FMIL got this invite in the mail Thursday from her nephew, my FH's cousin. They are having a destination wedding abroad in the bride's hometown/country. The invitation was sent I guess 4 or 5 days ago and the wedding was today ..heres where the shock value comes in.. there was a little tag attached to the invite and it said 'Must go dressed formal and in white. Gifts to the couple in cash please' No joke!! We were all shocked!

is it ok in other cultures dictate the kind of present you receive? She's latin and so am I..but I never heard of this..

Wow--not only was the invite sent a few days before the wedding, but they actually wrote that $$ was preferred??? Crazy!!!!

A few years ago my friend who is Vietnamese married a Korean girl, and he told me that the Asian custom is to give the couple a red envelope with money--something about good luck. But he was like, 'this is really tacky to tell you, but my FILs are making a big deal over this...' But people brought gifts as well, so I figured it was a cultural thing.

Cultural or not...that's totally inappropriate! I'm Puerto Rican and that's unacceptable. My cousin did that for her wedding, which we considered rude. To t his day, we're still in shock!
Just for that, I wouldn't send them a thing....secondly they sent the invite 4 or 5 days ago?!!!
Hopefully this person will learn 'costumbres' with your wedding invitations!
