So has anyone else had their parents push to invite people you have never met before?? My family plans to invite a bunch of their 'new' friends to our wedding and I don't even know their names. And one of them they keep pushing to have sing in the church. They keep asking over and over and I'm getting so annoyed. Anyone else having this problem?

They are paying but my whole thing is we don;t even know their names, have never meet them and won't be meeting them until the wedding. So for all I know their could be party crashers at the wedding cause I've never seen these people/

Re: Invite Issues
YES my fh's family has like 20 people coming I don't know! I'm peeved about it too mostly b/c I am seriously not spending my wedding day being introduced and having to talk to people I don't know....my plan is to basically smile and ignore them completely until I get to their table, then I'll be really gracious for 5 minutes...i am determined about it so I think it'll work!!

Re: Invite Issues
FH and I did our list, which came to about 85 people. Then we let the parents know they get to invite 85 people. Just as long as we get to invite who we want and they stay within their allotted amount, then I don't care.

Re: Invite Issues
We had this issue with FH's parents. Mine asked how many they could invite, and left it at that.
We let each parent couple invite a table of friends (both our parents are still married), so it is like 10 friends each. FH did have to cut some far out family, but he was ok with that

Re: Invite Issues
Our parents aren't inviting friends. Weddings are for families and close friends of the bride and groom. Some people treat it like this big show off event. I don't get it. We are lucky our parents aren't like that. If you really don't want them there, sit down with your parents and say you're not comfortable having people there you don't know.

This, but it's also because we're paying for the whole thing, so both of our parents are respecting who we're deciding to invite.

Re: Invite Issues
What FH and I did was set the amount of people that we want to invite and split it down the middle. We are inviting 220 so FH is inviting 110 and I'm inviting 110. I made my list of friends and family that I want there and told my mom she can fill the rest of the seats with whoever she wants but we have to stay at 110. So far so good!

Re: Invite Issues
I also gave our parents each a set number of people they are allowed to invite. If you cap the number you should be fine. Don't let them push you into inviting more. It is your wedding. You get the final say

Re: Invite Issues
We're having issue with that, everyone on my side I know and agree to invite but FH's parents are inviting like 20 people I don't know. We're trying to keep it as small as possible so we keep asking them to cut people out!! Especially people I've never met

Re: Invite Issues
i flat out told my parents, that I was not inviting anyone I didnt know. I made it very clear to them that it was important to me that my wedding be intimate
I also explained to them that we are on a budget so we really cant afford tons of extra people
my parents totally understood and they only invited 2 friends, both of which I know who they are.
sit down and talk to them about it and tell them your concerns, hopefully they understand.

Re: Invite Issues
My parents are paying and are inviting 60% of the guests - they say there's a limit for FH's family and they don't think they are being unreasonable.....
