if i have a folded invite, are there ANY inserts that actually go INSIDE the invitation (reception card???? maybe even the rsvp???? ) or do they ALL go behind the invitation??? HELP!!!!

I've seen it done both ways. But I think you should put the reception card, RSVP, and directions behind the invitation. Thats just my personal opinion. I think either way is fine.

You can attach a ribbon on the empty side of the invite that can hold your inserts sort of like a rubber bad would (sorry I don't have a pic). You can also attach a 'pocket' that will do the same (see pic below).
Many people gather the inserts and tie a ribbon around them and put them behind the main invite as well. It's really up to you.

well my invites are a tri-fold (bottom folds up, top folds down)...i was told to put the reception & response stuff IN the invite & all the direction and hotel info behind it.... however i dont want the stuff inside the invite to take away from the beautiful invitations!!!! uuuggh not a big deal to others but i dont know what to do!

place them in size order on top of each other.

I think that if it folds, that's the purpose [as explained to me by our invitation lady]...to put things 'in' the card. all that stuff actually goes in front of the invite if it doesn't fold....but i'm sure that no one is going to call the invite police if you don't do it this way.
