According to the etiquette guide my invitations came with, it says to avoid putting 'and Family' when referring to children. It says to instead write the children's names out in age order. Did anyone do this? Is 'and Family' not acceptable?
Also, should I put the children's names on the outter envelope under Mr. and Mrs. Parents Names or just the inner envelope? Will the parents notice the kids' names on the inner? I don't want them thinking the kids aren't invited. Same thing for everyone with 'and Guest'. Is it ok to put that on both the outter and inner. I don't know if the people will realize 'and Guest is on the inner' and have them think they can't bring anyone.
Ah.... I just want these pieces of paper out in the mail and out of my sight already!!!
Spelling edit.

Re: Invite Question re: outter and inner envelopes
Honestly....do what you think looks right. People don't analyize envelopes as closely as you think.
I would put the 'and Guest' or 'and Family' part on the inner envelope since you have one. But if you didn't have one then it would go on the outer envelope.

I HAD THE SAME PROBLEM I WROTE AND GUEST ON THE OUTER AND THE INNER ENVELOPES. I KNOW THAT YOUR SUPPOSE TO FOLLOW ETIQUETTE BUT PEOPLE DO WHATEVER IS EASIER FOR THEM. AS FAR AS PUTTING THE CHILDRENS NAMES IN ORDER BY AGE THAT I DID NOT DO BUT I DID WRITE THE KIDS NAMES ONLY ON THE INNER EVELOPE. ON THE OUTER I JUST WROTE MR AND MRS. SO AND SO.
I HOPE THIS HELPS. I SEE OUR WEDDING ARE THE SAME MONTH. YAY FOR US LOL.

Re: Invite Question re: outter and inner envelopes
I followed the ettiquette that it came with also and people still called to ask. The ones whose kids weren't invited called to see if they were and one who did get a guest still callled to see if he could bring his gf. I didn't put 'and guest' on the outside but I put it on the inside and I guess he missed that ?? I don't think it matters because most people don't know any more about the etiquette than we do.

Re: Invite Question re: outter and inner envelopes
We recently got an invite addressed per ettiquette and I have to say it insulted me a bit. It had FH's name on the outside and then had both our names on the inner envelope. When he got home I gave it to him, unopened and said well I guess I'm not invited!! I say do whatever!

Re: Invite Question re: outter and inner envelopes
I think I am just going to play it safe. Inner and outter will have the same names. Only difference will be the outter having the address.
Thanks.
And if it's against 'etiquette' then I don't care!

Re: Invite Question re: outter and inner envelopes
WE PUT ALL THIS THOUGHT IN ALL THIS INVITATION AND ADDRESSING AND PEOPLE JUST THROW THE INVITATIONS IN THE GARBAGE. SAD BUT TRUE. DO WHAT MAKES YOU FEEL HAPPY.

Re: Invite Question re: outter and inner envelopes
LOL I know. I keep thinking 'this is going to end up in the trash anyway'. I'm already using clear address labels so... might as well continue going against 'etiquette'! And like someone mentioned already, most of these people probably don't have the slighted clue on what is 'right' and 'wrong' anyway.
