Be careful with fudging times, some places get REALLY pissed off if you purposely put an earlier time.
I doubt a church will have a problem with guests arriving early. But I was threatened on pain of death by my RH (surpriiiiiiiiiiiise, surprise!) if I put 7:00 instead of 7:30 for CH start.
Same here ! I have to actually submit an invitation at my 3 month meeting before I can finish my planning and that is just for cocktail .... My church actually told me 3 times in a matter of a 4 minute convo to please make sure I put the correct time!
Are you guys getting married at the RH? Mine is a church so it might be slightly different. I know 3 or 3:30 is fine for a start time for my day because we switched it back and forth about 3 times already!! And they have been fine with that. Ugh.. so nutty!! Also, FFIL is marrying us in the church. He is a deacon. Haha it's like marrying into 7th Heaven!!!
I am getting married at a church, but both the church and RH yelled at me to have the correct times for both lol... Im gettin it from all angles!
O WOW! You are getting it from all angles!!!
I figure it this way... The people who matter most will know to be there ON TIME and those that are late.. oh well. Just as long as FH isnt late, then things will be wonderful lol

Re: Invite time vs real ceremony time
I put the actual time on the invite. I am perpetually early or on time. As other posters have said, I'd be mighty PO'd if I had to wait because of other people's tendency for tardiness.
BTW, only one couple showed up late for my ceremony and I didn't even know it. So you could get lucky like that.

I put 15 min early just in case. I didnt want to go to 30 min early and my RH said it wouldnt be a problem. I would check with where your having the ceremony first.
Hmm I liked the 15 min early the best. Do you think it would look stupid if I put 3:15. haha or a quarter passed the hour??
I put 11:15 on my regular set of invites and then on my chinese I had quarter past the hour since thats how the wording was laid out.
Right now it says 'at three o'clock in the afternoon'
So would that translate to 'a quarter passed three o'clock in the afternoon'
The reception invite says half passed seven o'clock in the evening.
My invite says ' fifteen past eleven o'clock in the morning' and thats not a weird time its a time just like half past the hour.

Re: Invite time vs real ceremony time
I put the real time. Aside from My parents, siblings, grandparents and FH's parents, siblings and grandparents who have all been told they must be there on time, anyone else who is late s*cks for them... I'm not holding the ceremony up for anyone, oh well...

My ceremony starts at 6:30 I put 6pm on the invite because my RH gives a half hour 'welcome room' with coffee, champagne and strawberries!
My RH told me to put 6:00 on the invite for a 6:30 ceremony start. They offer champagne, sparkling water, and pass some fruit or something while everyone is waiting. I think if your RH has no prob w/it why not do it? It's only a half an hour. You don't want people busting in late to your ceremony.

Re: Invite time vs real ceremony time
we put the actual time... i was debating this for a while but I heard to many people say 'people will get mad' so I just kept normal time. I feel like the people that REALLY want to be there will be there on time and early..

Re: Invite time vs real ceremony time
We said the real start time because we are the third wedding of the day at that church and our florist was saying many times they can't get in there to switch the flowers until almost the start time because of weddings going late, even though St. Pats say they don't let weddings go late, they obviously do. I didn't want my guests going in as the florist is changing the flowers.
I always assume the time on the invitation is the time the bride is arriving. I think most people assume that.

Our Ceremony is at 6:30 but we put 6 to start. I think its better this way no one is walking in while your walking down the isle, ya know?
