Invites all out...and now they want more!

My invites went out yesterday (yay!). I had consulted with FH and the FILs tons of times before hand with the guest list. Then last night it comes out that they have about 10 more people between FH and FILs to invite. They aren't paying for anything, and I didn't want to go much over the minimum since so many other expenses have come up. I said I don't have enough invites left (which I really don't), and FMIL said she would buy do-it-yourself ones to give them!

I know exactly how you feel. My mom came to me with 'must-invites' after I sent them out.

Sorry to say, but it doesn't get easier either. Well, at least for me it didn't. The best part is hounding the last minute people that don't know how to drop a card in a mailbox to send their confirmed RSVP by the due date!

Once we were at the finishing stages of the list (she was reviewing it for typos) and in the middle of a conversation about how strapped we are for money and how our invite list is out of control - she adds more people!!!

So my FH and I calmly and as delicately as possible told her that we will not cut our friends or family off the list for people who we don't know and don't know us. We did let her know we'd be happy to invite them if she wanted to pay for them.

They were immediately taken off the list.


I hope it works out for you. But you need your FH to support the decision and address his mom...you shouldn't.

just plain rude..her own invites? Yikes!

I agree..........If she's not paying - She has NO SAY in who is or is not invited. - aside from immediate family - If she wants HER friends there, then she can pay for them. -

I agree....why don't you tell her she needs to pay for her extra invitees??
