Invites wording

Invites wording

Okay if my date is the twenty first. Do I hyphenate twenty-first or is okay just to say twenty first.

Also which one sounds better half after three or half past three?

Thanks

Re: Invites wording

I have a book on wedding etiquette by Emily Post, & that date should be hyphenated. She also uses the term 'half after', but personally I think 'half past' sounds better. I guess it's more of a personal choice. Hope this helps!

Yes that really helps. I see in the invitation magazines they all use half after also.

Thanks so much!!

Re: Invites wording

My invite says 'half past' instead of half after. I think you should just go with what you like better. I'm pretty sure most of the invites I've gotten and most of the samples in the store I went to said 'half past' -- but I also have the Emily Post book, and I guess a lot of people use 'half after' as well. Go with what you like better!

The twenty-first of (month) should always be hyphenated, though.

I would hyphenate, I think it looks better.
Also, half past sounds good to me. JMO
