Invites...Invites...Invites...

I'm looking for advice about invitations. I know that you can do them on your own computer with some program, but do they look chinsy that way? Where can I find the program? Does anyone have any suggestions on other places to go? I don't get out to LI much, so I'd rather not go all over the place looking for a good price on traditional invites. Also, has anyone tried RSVPing by e-mail or to a wedding website rather than sending out all those extra cards/stamps? Is it worth the money you save or is it just too much of a hassle? Thanks-

I saw the invites they had at Michaels and there were 10 in a pack for $9.99. It was pretty paper but that was just for an invitation. Packs of response cards/reception cards were also 10 for $9.99. It would basically be at least $3.00 an invitation and you have to do all the work. I just ordered mine to be done professionally and got the invite, reception, response, thank you's, return addresses, lined envelopes etc...for about $2.50 a piece. And I didn't have to pick the least expensive style to get to that price.
If you want to do it yourself, maybe there are other places that sell the paper in bulk at a lower price but getting your stuff at Michael's is not an economical route. Now if you want to do it to be creative, that's another story. I love all the creative touches I have put forth to make our wedding special but I decided I didnt want to mess around with the invites when I could get something superior for less money by going with a professional.

Thank you everyone for all the info- it really helps. Where did you go to get yours done, then?

I got mine done in Forest Hills at a place called Felicitations. She had a few dozen books to look through. Let me know if you want the number. They are supposed to be ready in 2-3 weeks max.
