inviting childhood friends you havent spoken to in years
So let me know if this is weird?
I havent spoken to my best best best friend from 5th grade up until we graduated high school in like 4 years. I was out in my old neighborhood one day with another school friend and we were like 'lets go to lisas house!! see if shes there!' She was there and so excited to see us and we caught up. We kept in touch for a few months and then stopped talking because i guess life just got in the way...this was 4 years ago.
As kids we always talked about being in each others weddings and what our weddings would be like. I started thinking about her last night and i got so sad that shes not in my life anymore. I want to invite her to the wedding but its not like im just going to send her an invite out of the blue, ya know? I dont know her phone number but i figured maybe i could write a letter and send it to her parents house...i know she prob doesnt live there anymore but it would get to her eventually. Is this weird?
I know i cant be the only one in this situations. We were best friends for so long...slept over each others houses every weekend, inseperable and then college happened. We're both very different people into very different things now but i cant imagine this special day without her there. I dont know what to do.

I've been thinking the same thing lately. Only mine are with male friends that my mother is still very close with their parents. So mine wouldn't actually be in my bridal party, just invited to the wedding. I would say maybe send the invite, but don't ask her to be part of your bridal party. Since you haven't spoken in so long, it may be hard to coordinate schedules for her to be so involved. But I'm sure she'd be honored to be invited.

Do you have the phone number to any of the friends that still talk to her? They may have the number. I would try to get a hold of her and meet up for lunch or something and ask her... JMO.

I have a few friends that I lost touch with that I was REALLY close with up until college. I have been able to 'talk' to them recently (through facebook or myspace) but we always say we are going to get together or even call eachother and it never happens. I guess we are both too busy and consumed with our own lives. Its nice to always be able to email and say hello but I am not going to invite any of them to the wedding.... they wouldn't know anyone and it would be the first time I saw them in forever.

I think if you want to - invite her but just invite her with a date. . people can have fun at parties where they don't know anyone - I wouldn't worry about that. .. there's a chance she won't come anyway and I would always say chance are you will never regret inviting her but you might regret not. .

Re: inviting childhood friends you havent spoken to in years
I felt the same way. I had two friends who were more like sister through elementary all the way through high school. We always said we would be each others maids of honor but after high school we all went our separate ways, we kept in touch for the first couple of years but we haven't spoken in the past 5 years. I felt weird about just sending an invite without having had spoken to them. I felt it would look like I was looking for a gift or something, so I didn't.

IDK if you really want her there then you should invite her! Invite her with a guest so she won't feel so out of place? Just let her know that you understand if she doesn't want to come but that you couldn't imagine not inviting her since you guys used to always talk about your wedding days together. For me its a little different, I don't feel like putting the effort in!

I agree. I have 1.5 friends that this applies to. I am inviting them both. I count one as half because we have spoken but not that recently. She also invited me to her wedding. I couldn't make it though. But I will be inviting both of them. I don't see how they can take it the wrong way... it's nice of you to think of them after so very long to invite them. And let's be honest... aren't you paying to have them there? I mean them thinking you are only doing it for the gift is a but silly to me...because honestly whatever they gave me, most likely wouldn't cover their plate, not to mention all the extras that go along with inviting someone. So really, in the end who is laying out more money here? You are... so I don't agree with the gift comment. IMO - sorry. IDK how much it is pp with other people, but for me, I know I am not making back all the money we put into it.
I think it's the thought that counts... and if you thought to invite her after all these years.. then you should invite her. And it's not like she will be sitting at a table knowing no one... she can bring a guest. And if you guys were that close, then surely she must know some of your family members and maybe even perhaps some old friends as well. Also, some people are outgoing enough to have a good time at a party without knowing anyone. And lastly, if she was really turned off by it (which I doubt) the worst she can do is decline the invitation. I say go for it!

I have a similar situation , we found each other on facebook and I had no intention of inviting her, then she emails me saying how wonderful it is that I am engaged and that she better be invited to the wedding. I guess I will decide when things get closer.

Re: inviting childhood friends you havent spoken to in years
It is funny because I have been having sooooo much drama with my BP (friends from college) that it made me realize how much i miss my childhood friends.....I have been friends with 4 of them since kindergarten. We still keep in touch here and there and have luncheons a couple times a year but I want one of them to be in my BP. I was going to talk to her and see what she said about it.
I think you should definitely write your friend a letter. I would if I was you otherwise I might regret it if I didnt.

I have a few too, I am just using my discretion and inviting ones that I WANT to be there, not worrying about if I 'should' or not.
If you want her to be there, do it. If you don't care, don't worry about it.
I also had a friend from HS who hasn't given me the time of day pretty much since and when I got engaged she wrote on my facebook wall- 'I better be invted!'. Yea right, lol.

Re: inviting childhood friends you havent spoken to in years
this post is crazy....
on thursday one of my best friends from childhood passed away. he was like a brother to me. i was there everyday and our families were very close as well. as we got older... we grew apart... we went different ways and he went down a bad path and we lost touch. he was my first crush.
now here we are 15 years later and i buried him friday. I have so much regret that i can't take it. i found him on facebook about 2 weeks ago and didnt do anything ( i thought he wouldnt remember me - crazy i know).
I just cant believe i will never see him again. i just always thought our paths would cross again.
we have been to the house a lot this week to sit shiva. We have every intention on keeping in touch with his sister ( who I was close with as well) and his parents. His sister had gotten married and i wasn't invited ( we werent speaking - no reason, it is during our drift apart).
