Hi, I know this has been asked time and time again. But here goes; this is my situation.
I am a manager for an internet bank. I manage 13 associates and I have 4 bosses total. I'm inviting all the bosses including the head honcho who I don't work directly with, but he's the Boss Man.
I have 8 full time employees and the rest are college students working part time. (I'm not inviting any of the 'kids')
Of those 8, I'm intending on inviting 6. Is this wrong?
The other two individuals are not that close with me. 1 just started last month, the other pretty much keeps to herself, is wonderful- but I can't say if I left my job tomorrow I would keep in touch with her.
I guess my question is this: As the boss/supervisor, can I choose to only invite 6 out of the 8, or am I obligated to invite my entire department? Sorry so long...what are your thoughts?

Unless you constantly talk about your wedding with either one of them, I don't think it's necessary. You can't be expected to invite everyone you know!

I would invite all 8. Since you're not close with the other 2 they may just decline anyway. But you should definitely at least extend an invitation so they don't feel awkward or left out...especially because you're their supervisor.

I was in a similar situation and I don't think you can choose to invite only 6 of the 8 full time associates. As a boss, you never know how that might come back to bite you in the a$$. I would invite them all. If you make the decision to invite any of them, I would invite all of them. Good luck!

It's a touchy situation. Just think of it this way, if you invite them all you'll get more gifts, which will ultimately even out the money you spend to invite them. You can also wait to see if other people on your list decline and then send those two extra people an invitation. I would probably feel bad not inviting them, so if you can you probably should

I think it is all or none when it comes to other employees. it is ok to invite bosses and no one else, but once you invite one collegue you are supposed to invite them all. That's why we're not inviting any. I dont want to pick and choose.

I agree with this.

I wouldn't recommend using this to guide your guest list. You would be surprised at the number of people that give you light up porcelain Bible quotes or syrup as a gift. Yes-i received both.
Invite those who you want to share in your day irrespective of the gift you may or may not receive.

I think it would only be right to invite all 8. If you were only going to invite 2 or 3, you can get away with it, but if I were the other 2 employees who didn't get invited, I would be irritated.

I would invite all 6 of the 8 may make an awkward situation when you get back to work.

Re: inviting co-workers -Need your opinion
Unfortunatelly, you will need to invite all 8 or nothing. You are about to raise the 'favoritism' flag for the other 2 who are not invited. This is not good for team work and morale in your team. The 2 who are not invited will really feel excluded, regardless how close or not you are to them. That's a sure way to remind them, they are not part of your 'clan'. Especially if you are their manager. That's a no no.

I would only invite the people you see outside of work and have more than an acquaintance-work relationship with. HTH
