Inviting Kids To The Reception?

Inviting Kids To The Reception?

Good question - I have seen it popping up all over the boards (alot on the 08) - I am assuming it is because they are taking it head on right now...
Are you inviting kids to the reception?

I have a dilemma.. FH's Daugher is our FG (she will be almost 6 at that point) - and we are inviting her 12 year old cousin - primarily to keep her occupied so we can have a good time. They are the ONLY exception! ... My Dad is paying for 1/2 the reception - has a guest list of 20 people (Mom is paying the other 1/2 - has a guest list of 100, and FH has guest list of 40)... On his list of 20 people.. there are my uncles 2 kids (my cousins i guess. I have only met them 2x ever) .. and they will both be under 13... do you think this is going to cause some controversy... I can't exactly put adult reception only...

I'm not having any kids at my reception. I dont have a flower girl or ring bearer so there are no exceptions to make. I just dont feel like kids belong at a wedding.

we have some problems with this. I think either way someone isn't gonna be happy but if they really want to be there for you then they will be there

No kids here either. I'm not having a flower girl or ring bearer either. I'm getting a lot of grief about this from FH's family but too bad. I'm on a tight budget and don't want to pay for a bunch of kids meals. If they want to come they can find someone to watch their kids.

Yea - I know its early - It came up because we were looking at invitation wording recently - and how can I not let my father invite who he wants (such a tiny tiny guest list) - ... hopefully it wont be too bad

I thought everything was going smoothly for me til the other day.
I am inviting kids 9 and over, only because my FG will be 9, i have my son who will be 14 and some 1st cousins that are 10-19.
Well everyone else knows that anyone younger is not invited and they were fine.
I talked to my FG's mother and she was shocked I was asking the FG and her sister to the wedding. Im getting married at the RH so I thought the FG would definately be there and thought it would be rude not to ask her sister. She may have someone bring the FG home, cause she will have someone watching her sister.
Well now the out come of this is that they have the option to bring them if they want.
I guess mine is the opposite of yours but, I say if you dont want them put your foot down. I made an age limit and Im sticking with that.

I am not having any kids except our flower girl. If people have a problem with this then they just wont come. I was never invited to a wedding as a child and my parents would never have called the Bride and groom and asked if we could come. Parents can get a babysitter or not come is my opinion.

No children at our wedding. No FG or RB. FH is an uncle of many and we want everyone to be able to enjoy themselves and not have to watch their children. Plus - I don't want to worry about behaving myself because a child might hear what I say or see what I do.

The only kids that will be attending the wedding are the ones in the bridal party. I don't know if it's proper etiquette but I've seen 'adult reception only' written on invites. I have to check on that

I am only have kids that are my FH first cousins. I am also having the flowergirl/boy. Otherwise I dont want kids. I want all adults to be able to enjoy themselves.

We are only inviting my FH's neices and nephews who are between the ages of 9 - 20 and my 1st cousins, the youngest being 10. Thats it.

Fortunately we do not have this problem. FH has a nephew who will be 10, a niece who will be 7, another nephew who will be 3 (our ring bearer) and my cousin's daughter who will almost be 4 (our flower girl). Everyone else in the family are adults (age 20+). As far as friends go, mostly everyone's kids are grown up. The ones with children never bring them to any of our functions anyway so it won't upset them if they aren't invited to the wedding.

ETA: If the envelope is addressed to Mr. & Mrs. ___ it should be clear, no? And if children were invited it would be Mr. & Mrs. ____ & Family. No one should be offended IMO. I would think the couples with children would look forward to an adults-only night out.

I'm not having a FG or RB. But I'm allowing kids at the reception only bc the youngest kids on either side of our families are like 9 or 10 years old. They pretty much know how to behave themselves.

I never wanted kids at the wedding (esp the ceremony) but there's no getting around it for us. We are having about 1/2 of FH's family flying in from Ireland and we ended up agreeing to have the FG (she'll be 7, I think) and RB (4) as FSILs kids since there will be no one to watch them. Plus there will be two babies about 1yo - also couldn't be avoided. I just know one thing...if anyone starts crying during the ceremony, I'm gonna freak! The reception I don't care about so much.

Only my ring bearer & flower girl will be attending.
our reception will be an evening affair & it runs into the early AM i dont think its an appropriate event for children. My sister & her husband will have the opportunity to bring the kids (RB/FG) home if they choose. Between both families i would have over 30 kids! No way. So since FH is an only child & the RB/FG are my niece & nephew i can justify having them & no other children.

ok this is such a hard question ... i mean as of right now we dont have a ring boy and flower girl because of this reason .... now i have cousins that are 10 and 12 ... and they live out of state ... sooo i feel not good about inviting my adult cousins and telling them hey come here for the weekend from florida and leave your kids at home with someone ... thats a lot to ask of someone! this is something we still need to work out!!!

We are having kids but only family... we're having 3 FGs, a Jr BM, 2 RBs and 1 Jr GM. So we're having kids at the wedding so I don't have to deal with pissing people off.

Re: Inviting Kids To The Reception?

I am only allowing 4 kids at my wedding:

My niece, who is my FG
My fiance's nephews, who are our RB's
My bridesmaid's little 2 year old and only because she is flying in from Germany and she is not from NY so I can't expect her to leave her son in Germany or find someone to watch him.

Other than that, I am putting my foot down. No exceptions!
