Good question - I have seen it popping up all over the boards (alot on the 08) - I am assuming it is because they are taking it head on right now... Are you inviting kids to the reception?
I have a dilemma.. FH's Daugher is our FG (she will be almost 6 at that point) - and we are inviting her 12 year old cousin - primarily to keep her occupied so we can have a good time. They are the ONLY exception! ... My Dad is paying for 1/2 the reception - has a guest list of 20 people (Mom is paying the other 1/2 - has a guest list of 100, and FH has guest list of 40)... On his list of 20 people.. there are my uncles 2 kids (my cousins i guess. I have only met them 2x ever) .. and they will both be under 13... do you think this is going to cause some controversy... I can't exactly put adult reception only...

No, and i am getting HELL about it from FH's family as everyone here knows, because ive complained about it lol
if i allow 1, i have to allow all, and it would be about 30 kids i believe weddings are adult affairs, and if kids were invited and should be there then i would have a clown and popcorn machines for them to keep them entertained....the only kid there will be mine, and if she didnt come out of me, she would even be there

No kids here either. I'm not having a flower girl or ring bearer either. I'm getting a lot of grief about this from FH's family but too bad. I'm on a tight budget and don't want to pay for a bunch of kids meals. If they want to come they can find someone to watch their kids.
I feel the same way

I dont want to....but we have to. We are hiring a babysitter to watch them though.
Fh's family is trying to FORCE me to have kids, but im not budging, and im not hiring a babysitter for them either, they can get their own babysitters, they all think im a biotch right now, but its ok because its my wedding not theirs

Re: Inviting Kids To The Reception?
First time around the only kids were my sister (8 at the time) and my cousin (7 at the time) who were both flower girls. THis time around I changed my mind. I am close to a lot of people with kids and I am having an afternoon wedding so I don't see a problem with it. I was at several weddings growing up. But I do understand not wanting kids...it is your wedding if you think they don't belong there then don't invite 'em!

Re: Inviting Kids To The Reception?
I am not having ANY kids. FH's family is a little ballsy with this subject. I didn't invite kids to my E Party and one of FH's cousins bought their daughters. I was really pissed how they did that. Also, we went to a wedding of FH's other cousins, and another cousin of his had his two kids with them. Again, something I find tacky to do when specifically people say NO CHILDREN. If they do that the day of my wedding, I will freak out. I have to talk to FMIL about this and have her take care of this.

I'm not, and FH and I both have nieces and nephews under 10 . . . . they will come to our ceremony, but that's it.

We're having kids at ours - we won't have more than about 10 and I wouldn't want to exclude any of my little cousins.

Re: Inviting Kids To The Reception?
I have learned that you can please everyone... You have to do what ever you WANT to do. The only thing I will say is exept for the kids in the bridal party if you invite aome kids and not others that might cause some trouble. If you dont want kids then no kids should be invited once agian excluding the ring bearer and flower girl. B/c speaking from experiance people arent going to understand and they are going to let you know there unhappy.

Re: Inviting Kids To The Reception?
FH and I have big families so we are inviting kids b/c we feel we can't exclude them... thankfully its only a few kids under the age of 12.... one of GM has kids but we are inviting them b/c we are close to them.... as you can see it totally depends on your situation... In my opinion I feel kids add a little something extra to the wedding

Re: Inviting Kids To The Reception?
NO KIDS are coming to my reception with the exception of the ones in the bridal party period! People try to guilt you into inviting kids, its not happening! sorry girls, this is a very sore subject in my wedding planning as of late.

Re: Inviting Kids To The Reception?
i am having lots of kids at my wedding. my family is very close and the kids will be my little cousins and my sons whom i am very close with and cannot see celebrating w/o them. they are not going to tear the place apart so i am not worried. my guests who are friends aren't bringing their children, tho. it's just for the kids in my family.

Re: Inviting Kids To The Reception?
This is a huge topic we are facing as well, I am inviting children but only those of our immediate families as they are just as excited as the adults to see the 'Cinderella Wedding'...LOL How could I say no? Plus our catering hall has children under 6 for free and from 6-12 half price after our minimum has been met. We have booked our wedding at Floral Terrace.
