Just wondering what others are doing - inviting kids or not to their weddings?
We're thinking of not inviting kids because we're on a budget, but I feel guilty about this! Our wedding is during a holiday weekend (our wedding date is July 2) and a good number of our guests will be traveling from out of town, and many of them have kids. Just wondering what everyone else is doing...

Re: Inviting kids to the wedding??
Im not! Sorry...I like kids but choose not to have them running around, JMO. I dont have an option on my FSIL & FBIL's kids and they are 2 and another on the way. They wont leave them with ANYONE! So, Im stuck with that. The older one is a TERROR! I agree...I just think that some weddings are catered only to adults.
again, JMO...my honest one.

Re: Inviting kids to the wedding??
I am but only my cousins... I'll have 6 flowergirls and a RB... but we will most likely get a babysitter to come watch them in the bridal suite...
If i didnt have cousins there would be no children invited... im not inviting any of my friends children... even if they are coming from OOT... i want everyone to be able to have fun and not worry about what their children are up to... i will offer them names of babysitters though...

Re: Inviting kids to the wedding??
We were hesitant to invite children also, but realize we have to. FH has a lot of younger cousins that I love who I really want there. I wouldn't feel right inviting some and not all. Like you said it might be tough considering if your guests are traveling here (OOT). Our hall offered us a different price for kids which I think most halls do. Maybe that would help you?

Re: Inviting kids to the wedding??
We're inviting all the munchkins in our family, (for a total of about 12 kids ranging in age from 1-13, plus a few teens) but not friends' children . Actually, that's really coworkers' children, since none of our friends have any yet. Since we don't see our extended families much due to distance, I would hate to have a family gathering without the kids.
One thing, though: we're not having any children in our wedding party. That's saving us money on gifts for them, as well as saving their parents on dresses/suits.
And of course, once we make our minimum, kids eat for half price.

Us too. I really was tempted to cut out any kids (to save money) - but I just couldn't cut out my cousins (range in ages) or FH's cousins. We see some of them all the time - plus all major holidays - and I really think it is important not to exclude them!
Although, I want to say no kids besides cousins - but my FH thinks that is mean to invite some kids and not others. Never easy!

Re: Inviting kids to the wedding??
no one under 18, that is our rule and we are sticking to it. aside from the fg's and rb's and they may not even come to the reception. i REFUSE to pay $40 for a 6 year old who will eat 3 bites of their meal and nothing else. $40 for chicken nuggets - not a chance

Re: Inviting kids to the wedding??
I agree...we are getting married on July 7th 2006....around a very popular weekend! We decided bc my FH has so many cousins that we are putting an age limit. I think we decided no younger than 17...and plus if the parents u invite have young ones...and they bring them they wont be able to have a night out and enjoy themselves!!!

Re: Inviting kids to the wedding??
Well I am partial to having children at my wedding, whithin reason. I have a little boy who will be there and my flowergirl and maybe another 3 little kids. Children bring excitment and it is so funny to watch them dance. If you love them and are close to them I would have them there. You may regret not unless they are not well behaved. Goodluck deciding.

Re: Inviting kids to the wedding??
We're inviting only immediate family kids. My family would see it as rude if we didn't. I'm hoping that since its an evening wedding that hopefully they won't come. We aren't having any flower girls or ring bearers.

Re: Inviting kids to the wedding??
As of right now, NO kids. I have nieces and nephews, ages 3 - 9, and although I love them, I know them very well. They will get very bored at the reception, and since it's an evening reception, they will get tired and cranky. My sisters will be so concerned about the kids that they wont have a good time themselves.
Bored, tired, cranky kids who are constantly being scolded by their parents for misbehaving = a really bad idea!
Fortunately my mother is on board with this, so it's not much of a big deal...yet...
Thinking of a compromise for the kids though in case they really want to be a part of our day...Maybe inviting them to the ceremony and cocktail hour, but then having their sitters take them home. Still up in the air about that though.

Re: Inviting kids to the wedding??
Maybe you can get a babysitter and have a seperate area for the kids atleast so the parents can have some fun! We're not inviting kids either. We just thought an adult reception would be best for us.

Re: Inviting kids to the wedding??
We are not inviting any children to the wedding. The youngest kid there will be my cousin who will be 15. There are no other children in the family. I asked my friends with children if they would like to bring their kids, and they replied, 'NO!!' They want to have a good time by themselves.

Re: Inviting kids to the wedding??
Yes we are inviting kids. I don't mind at all, really. FH niece and nephew are going to be RB and FG, they will be six. One of my BM's has a daughter who is going to be a junior BM, she will be 8. And then I have 4 cousins will range in age from 12-16. There aren't really that many. Those are all the kids from both sides.

Re: Inviting kids to the wedding??
the only little on at my wedding will be my FG who will be turning 3 the day of my wedding! I would not nor could not imagine my wedding without her. Also FH is having my cousin be a groomsmen & he will be 14. Other then that, no one will have a child there. We just have WAY too many little ones to invite them all!

Re: Inviting kids to the wedding??
The only kids that I imagine will be there aside from my flower girl and ring bearer are my niece who will be 3 and my cousins son who will be almost 3. She is an out ot town Bridesmaid so he is definitely invited.
I'm almost certain that any other guests with small children will get sitters.

Re: Inviting kids to the wedding??
My sister has 3 kids whom I adore and totally want there. My FBIL has one kid. I think we might also allow cousins to bring kids as well. We might end up with 6-7 kids. I just hope people really mind their children as I don't want them running around, but I have no choice.

Re: Inviting kids to the wedding??
I love love kids...I mean I am a teacher..BUT not at my wedding.
I never understood why I wasn't invited to weddings when I was a kid but now that I am planning my own..I totally understand.
I just don;t want kids running all around and IMO their parents don't have a good time because they are chasing after them.
It would be another story if my brothers or my FI brother or sister had kids but they don't.

Re: Inviting kids to the wedding??
I am not having any. My nephews are young and they would be tired, cranky, bored and I am not dealing with that, nor do I want my guests to. Some people may not like it, but My day = my way!
