Just wondering what others are doing - inviting kids or not to their weddings?
We're thinking of not inviting kids because we're on a budget, but I feel guilty about this! Our wedding is during a holiday weekend (our wedding date is July 2) and a good number of our guests will be traveling from out of town, and many of them have kids. Just wondering what everyone else is doing...

Re: Inviting kids to the wedding??
I'm still in the air about it. I have one definate kid attending, thats Kevin's nephew. The other 6 kids in the family r second cousins. However 3 of them i see all the time, the other 3 live in Maine so i don't want to invite them, but if i invite the other set of cousins then there will be controversy and i don't need that. i don't know i just don't want to spend money on ages 3-12 when i know they won't eat.
good thing i still have a long ways to think about it.

Re: Inviting kids to the wedding??
We're still discussing this issue. I don't want kids - except for a select few. FH wants to invite many of our friends' kids - because in his words - 'they make it more fun'. I've tried to explain that not only is it expensive for us, but we won't have time to realize the fun that he expects them to be.
I know I'll win out on this one

Re: Inviting kids to the wedding??
No kids will be allowed except for the ring bearer and the flower girl at my wedding. As long as they are like 15 and over its fine. I will have a table just for them.

We're not inviting children...we're on a budget and can't afford to pay for all the children that FH's cousins have (theres 20 just on his side all under the age of 12) and all of mine...to be honest with you I don't want my wedding to be romper room...if we decide to do a FG or RB they'll be the only ones...

Re: Inviting kids to the wedding??
Do reception halls ahve reduced rates for children?
I think since it'sa holiday weekend that amkes your situation a lot more difficult. A lot of people will want thir whole families together on a holiday weekend and OOT guests will be reluctant to leave children alone, and b/c of all of the festivities may have a ahrd time finding someone to watch the kids. If there are a lot of OOT children involved can you plan a small separate event for children? Maybe hire a babysitter or two (even someof your older cousins 16-7 year olds) to watch the kids in a hotel room? You could just order some pizzas and have some crayons and disney dvd's, it would be a lot cheaper than having them at the reception and the parnets will love it b';c they'll be able to have a great time knowing the kids are safe. Does SMCC have a separate room you can do this in? Maybe the bridal suite or a room they use for smaller parties? There are a lot of ideas
I really don't want a lot of kids. I don't want to exclude kids, but that cna really bring the guest list up and it changes the party and little kids generally don't like wedding receptions and they make mom and dad not have a good time sometimes either, soo..
I'm currently arguing with FH about this. I say nieces and nephews only, and FIRST cousins who are children. like I have first cousisn who will be 14 and 17 at the time, so I think that's not bad. he wants to invite the CHILDREN of his first cousins, who will be 6,8,10, and 12 at the time. First of all those kids are father away family wise, 2nd of all, they're younger and probablt won't have a good time, and 3rdly if I invite the kids of HIS cousins, then i have to invite the kids of my cousins and then we're entering a WHOLE new ballgame with a LOT of kids. I don't want to be unfair to my family and not invite mY cousin's kids, andI don't want the affair overrun by children (it's saturday evening, formal, black tie optional). We're still debating this, but I figure they can find a babysitter!

Re: Inviting kids to the wedding??
Marymoon - I know East Wind has reduced prices for children under the age of 12 as long as you meet the minimum guranteed number of guests. I believe children and vendors are 1/2 price per plate after the guaranteed amount is met. I believe it is on my contract. Other reception halls may have different policies though. You can call....

Re: Inviting kids to the wedding??
the only kids that are coming are the ones in the bridal party(only 2 of them), then we are doing 18 or older to come to the wedding...

Re: Inviting kids to the wedding??
No one under 18 for us....therfore the only children that will be at the wedding are the 2 in the wedding party...
For us, there is just way too many of them... and way too costly...
If I had all the money in the world, and children were free... Id prob invite all cousins... and all my little munchkins in my class..
I LOOOOOOOOOVE kids!!!

Re: Inviting kids to the wedding??
we're having my neices and nephews, he has little brothers and my cousins kids. ALL the kids. I know they will be ok because all the weddings in my family included the kids and they always have a great time.
My reception hall does offer a reduced rate for the kiddies.
