inviting kids to the wedding?

inviting kids to the wedding?

My family is the typical irish family with many children. 24 to be exact. Originally i was thinking of only inviting those 15 and older which would be 13, so that leaves me with 11 that i wouldn't be inviting. They are between, or will be between 6 and 14 by the time of the wedding.
When i think about my family the children are one of the biggest things i think about because there are so many of them, which is good.

But i'm not sure what to do. I am 100% positive they will be well behaved in the church since they are all in catholic school and have been going to church since the day they were born. They will also be pretty good at the reception too. Obv $ is a issue but i do know that most halls will charge they kids place at 1/2 price.

Any thoughts??

i would say.. if they are part of your family and they are important to you.. AND you know they will be well behaved, i would invite them. it was very important to me to include all my cousins in my wedding. we all grew up together and i could not imagine not having them there. (the girls are all in my bridal party. their ages range from 12-20)

Include them. You get reduced rates with children and it seems that they are an integral part of the family.

I come from a similar background and will tell you that it does NOT go over well to not invite children. We're Mexican and huge on family, Catholicism ect....I have a cousin who is hosting an adult's only reception. She's gotten trashed and even worse, family members are really offended and hurt.

JMO, but I would definitely include them considering your family dymanics.

I completly agree with the responses. In my family there are many teenage cousins and I could NOT imagine my wedding without them. At xmas dinner, dinner would not have been dinner without my cousins. They are a very special part of our lives.. I think you should check your budget and defiantly include them if you can.

i'm mexican adopted into a irish, spanish, italian family lol...

we are including children at our wedding... a majority of
FH's family are OOT (IL, CO & WA) it wouldn't be right- who would watch them??? it would def discourage his family from coming. our wedding is almost like a mini reunion for him and his family and i would never want to be the person to prevent them from seeing all of the little ones! HOWEVER... considering that our list was brought down from 278 to 180,(not including the kids) children 3 and under won't have a seat, they will have to sit on laps!

If money is an issue, I would ask your RH how much do they charge for the kids. I know that some childres are free or 1/2 price depending on age.

If you're afraid they're going to misbehave during the ceremony I would ask a couple of the older children to watch them, maybe the church has a sunday school area you can use have a DVD or activites so they can be entertained.

Re: inviting kids to the wedding?

If I were to invite all of the children in my family including all my girlfriends who have at least 1 kid, i would be looking at about 30 kids, ranging from ages 2 months to 10 years old....me and Fh made the decision that we wont be allowing kids (only the ones in the bridal party), it would be to many children, and i also dont want any crying or complaining during the reception and esp. the ceremony.
also, im not too crazy about paying $50.00 per child so they can nibble on chicken fingers and not even eat it
so i say its up to you, do what you want. ive had people in FHs family say they were not coming at first if their kid cant come, i said OK. and guess what? later on they said they were coming all of a sudden they didnt care about their kid coming when they saw i wouldnt budge on my rule and my wishes of no kids

Your RH should definitely give you a discount for anyone under 21 if you're having an open bar, because legally they can't have underage drinking (and charging you full price for a teenage is essentially saying that they are allowing that teen to drink).
