Inviting Old Friends.

Inviting Old Friends.

Because of hectic schedules and area changes, we lost touch with some people who have always been there for us..

If you haven't spoken to someone in lets say a year..

Should you still invite them?

If you hope to have a future relationship with them, and can afford it, I say yes.

i dont know. I am in the same boat as you. i have a friend that i met freshman year of college, we really didnt get along that year (she was a long island girl and i was a born and raised queens girl. its like oil and water, we just didnt mix). sophomore year we wound up joining the same sorority together and became really good friends. senior year we drifted apart. then we hadnt spoken in a year and then for about 3 months we spoke everyday on line and then drifted again.

i am thinking of inviting her to the e-party and wedding but i am not sure. i think i may just because she knows bri and i so well and even though we dont talk all the time she is still a good friend and sorority sister.

I am actually inviting a friend of mine that I grew up with, lost touch when I moved to LI. Don't talk or hangout much, but whenever we may 'speak' whether online or through email, it's like we never stopped. Okay, so to make a long story short, I will be inviting him, whew!

I guess if you have the extra money, I would, but I don't know - especially if you haven't spoken a word in a year.

Actually this is going to be an issue for FH.

He has met alot of people over the course of his 31 years. He has alot of friends/acquaintances, our list coudl easily go over 200, but we cannot afford that many people, so here are MY rules for inviting people:

If we have not communicated with people on a fairly consistent basis via the telephone/computer or postal service they are not receiving an invite.

If $$$ was no object I would invite more people, but it is so I cannot.

I wanted to invite about 15 people I hadn't spoken to in a year, but we had to cut ourlist. I wound up inviting 2 or 3 of them that were real old friends from growing up, and I had fun with them there and was really glad I did.

we invited several 'old friends' who we had not spoken to other than in letters, cards or emails. For us, we wanted our family and friends to be there- regardless of whether we saw them regularly and it was great that so many of them were able to make it. We wanted a big wedding and had some room to spare. If it were a matter that we had to cut back, I could see cutting people we had not seen in over a year or distant reletives.

For our families, we figured it's best to see some of these long distance friends or reletives for a happy occasion like a wedding or christening than for something like a funeral! My Mom only really gets to see some of her family at funerals. Her guest list was pretty long, but we were understanding for that reason.

I would say no unless you are going to rekindle the friendship before the invite gets sent.

If I were to get a wedding invitation from someone I havent spoken to in over a year, I would see it a thinny veiled request for a gift.

Im sure that is not your intention, but it seems in bad taste to me to invite someone if you havent been able to make time in your schedule to talk to them in a long time.

I had a best friend for years and then about 5 years prior to my wedding I lost touch with her. No calls, no contact, no nothing...but I had her on my shower list. My mom and sister invited her to the shower and not only did she come but it was like we never missed a beat. I realized how much I had missed her. Although, she wasnt able to make the reception, she did come to the church which meant more to me than anything. I tend to agree with Valenia, if you want future contacts with them, defintalely invite. I mean if they say no..thats on them. At least you will feel good that you extended the offer. Good luck!

I am inviting old friends that I grew up with. I have not spoken to them except via cards in a long time, but I have known them since I was 5 years old. I would love to have them with me when I get married since I was there when they got married.
