Re: inviting out of towners to shower
i am having the same issue. i decided to only invite really close out of towners (really really close). those are the ppl who wouldnt think that im fishing for a gift or not (which i am not). that will actually only be 1 person.

Re: inviting out of towners to shower
FHs family has some OOTs. when my sister asked him about inviting them to the shower, he said to send the invite so they don't think they where intentionally left out. (they are his aunt & cousins) but to figure they will not come.
but hey you never know in some cases, people can surprise you. plus maybe they will send you something anyway.

I would probably send an invite since she is your aunt.

Re: inviting out of towners to shower
My mom isn't inviting any of her OOT relatives, even her sisters. My mom is hosting the shower, and they're her family, so it's her call. I have 3 OOT friends that I put on my guest list, and I'm sure they won't come, but I want them invited anyway.
FMIL actually got invited to an OOT shower not too long ago, and she was actually insulted. She felt that the bride was looking for a gift, since she pretty much knew FMIL wouldn't be at the shower.

Re: inviting out of towners to shower
thank you guys! i think i wouldnt have questioned it but she specifically told me that she wasnt going to come so i know with weddings, you still invite but i thought for the shower, it might really sound like i was asking for a gift. thanks again for your advice.
i think ill just have my mom mention it a few weeks before with a comment like, you know we would love you there but understand its really far so she realizes she is not forgotten

Re: inviting out of towners to shower
we have that issue too but we are inviting them to my shower anyway because I would not want to invite one sister (from here) and not invite the other sister from texas

Re: inviting out of towners to shower
i had that same problem with my mom's sisters who live in cali and we know for sure wouldn't come. my mom jsut said not to send them an invite but she'll mention it to them on the phone so they don't feel left out.

I think for family, even though they are out of town, I will definitely send an invitation to.

Re: inviting out of towners to shower
I'll invite my grandmothers, aunts and cousins but that is it. FMIL has already told me that no one from her side will come to NY for my shower so I'm not going to bother inviting any of them. I would be shocked if she actually came.
