Inviting people 'and guest'?

I personally am not inviting anyone alone. I have been invited to weddings without a guest though. Some people use the guideline of whether or not the single person is dating someone to include the guest. I just never liked not being able to bring someone, so I am going to give all my single friends the option.

Yes

3 of my best friends are not dating anyone, so b/c of our tight budget, I am only inviting them (w/o a guest). They already know this, and if before June they find someone special, they know that they can invite him!! :)

NO

Unless you know the guest already has a group at the wedding, I think going alone makes it awkward (especially when all the couples are dancing). But if your budget it tight, people will understand.

NO

That's what I meant, they said they won't be awkward, b/c the 3 of them are all best friends too.

We're paying for the wedding.....

so our friends who aren't dating anyone, are getting invited alone. We told them this months ago and they understood. If they happen to find someone within the next 2 months that they want to bring, they can just give us a call! Lisa

We`re paying for the wedding.....

I don't have many single friends so this is not really an issue for me. But I think if someone is over 21 and not part of a group of friends/family then they should be invited with a guest. I would find it were uncomfortable to be alone at a wedding and not know many people. Although Emily Post states that it is perfectly fine to invite single guests alone. BUT if someone is living together or engaged then their partner should be included.

I was invited w/o a guest...

to one of my friend's weddings a couple of years ago. The bridal party was HUGE - 10 guys, 10 ladies - and the bride and groom knew that mostly everyone was single and not seriously dating anyone. So, they made the decision to invite all of us alone with the hopes that we'd mingle and dance with each other. It didn't really work that way, b/c they didn't arrange the seating in a way that promoted mingling. (they sat everyone according to who they were friends with, so I was at a table of single girlfriends and bride's brothers). I remember sitting out nearly all of the slow dances. But, it wasn't the worse thing in the world b/c so many of my single girlfriends were there. My advice is - invite your single friends w/o guests if your budget is tight. But, make sure you seat them with someone they know (for comfort) and someone new (to mingle). Just an idea. Good luck!

NO and we are paying

In my opinion only, we are inviting all of our guests who are single with a guest, regardless of whether or not they are involved with someone or not. I know this adds to the cost, but we feel it is the right thing to do since most of our guests are already married and there will be very few single people there.

NO and we are paying

We are paying also, but I personally felt that it was important to give my single guests the option, based on my own past single experiences and receptions. I alotted for that option in my guest list, and now that I know many singles are not planning on bringing their SOs I can add other people who may not have gotten invited. If you have a huge guest list though, I can see that that would be one way to keep the numbers down.

Inviting people 'and guest'?

Hi, Fi & I have very large families and a very long list of friends; in order to try and accomodate everyone, we are inviting single cousins & friends without a guest. We have already started getting calls asking if they can bring someone. We have to tell them no; we have no choice. Best wishes!!

Inviting people 'and guest'?

We are inviting single people with a guest if they have been together for a considerable amount of time. Some of our single friends will bring someone just for the heck of it and we do not want to pay for that.
