My coworker is getting married three months before me and when she told me she was NOT inviting people WITH guests I was shocked!
She's inviting all of her friends from college but none of their boyfriends. I thought that was crazy especially since her and FH's parents are paying for the RH.
Basically her rule is if your in the Bridal party or Engaged, then you can bring a date.
Is anyone else doing this?

Re: Inviting people w/ guests
I am only going to invite people in relationships to the reception with a date. Also, if anyone in my immediate family (ie: siblings and cousins) are single, they will be invited with a date.
I feel like when you give everyone that option, they will bring random (and unwanted) guests. At my sister's wedding, someone begged her to let her bring a date. Then, it was some random guy who was probably on drugs making a fool out of himself and causing a scene at the reception. Also, my friend is getting married in July and one of our BFFs begged to be invited with a guest... meanwhile, she doesn't even have a friend who she can ask. We are thinking she will probably come alone and cost my friend getting married $150 for the missing guests dinner plate.

We are not inviting everyone with a guest, because it would be adding almost 100 extra people to our list- which is just way too much. If we have room at the end, we'll ask our friends if they'd like to bring a date.
However, anyone married, engaged, or in a relationship will be invited with their plus 1.
same here..

We are inviting pretty much everyone with a guest, even people that are not currently in relationships
we are too
same with us
ditto...just cant handle the drama..so when you send the invite are you going to just write +1 or and guest or are you going to find out the name of the date?? I was reading an ettiquitte book that said it is proper to put the actual name of the guest on the invite but it seems like a huge pain
It's a huge PITA but I think you should write their names on the invite. Your friend will appreciate it so much more than 'and guest'. When my cousin got married 3 months ago the invite and place cards said 'Rachel and guest' and I was so annoyed that they it didnt say 'Rachel and Nicholas'. If your friend is single and you are inviting them with a date to avoid the drama then you can put Guest on the invite, but try to fill out the name on the place card.

How are you letting people know this? You're writing in the invitation no guests allowed?

Well it's implied with the way it is addressed. If it just says 'Mr. Joe Smith' then it is implied that he cannot bring anyone. Only if it says '& Guest' then you can bring someone.

ug as of now were inviting everyone with a date, which is sooooo annoying, because it's literally adding somewhere around 50 people (who we wont even know!!) to our wedding..ridiculous
exactly why Im not inviting everyone with a guest unless they are engaged or in serious relationships. Everyone knows someone at the wedding so no one will be alone. IM already inviting close to 300+ people and minimum is 250. I dont have the resources for extra people even though I would love to invite everyone with a date.

Thats what were doing but like my 35 year old brother in law to be doesnt have anyone - hes picky so hes not getting a plus 1..... besides i want him to date my sister LOL
Hahaha Yeah we are making a couple of exceptions. My older brother isn't dating anyone, but I'm putting '& Guest' on his, because he is my brother lol

This is what FH and I are doing, sort of. We are inviting anyone who is in a serious relationship, or engaged etc with a guest. We are also inviting anyone who may not have anyone else at the wedding with a guest. For example, I am inviitng a girl I went to hs with, but all of our other friends are either in the bridal party (who will all get guests), or engaged, so I don't want her to feel left out. I lso have some older cousins who are getting guests. SO basically just like college friends who aren't lol. For us it would just be too much to invite EVERYONE with a guest.

Same here.... All of our guests are invited plus 1. No kiddies though.
How does someone inform potential guests that they are not allowed to bring anyone? Just wondering. Some people won't get the hint...how do you clear it up without coming across rude?
Not that this pertains to us...just curious.

Re: Inviting people w/ guests
Most of FH and my friends are in a relationship. I can't think of anyone at the moment whose 'guest' I don't know. I would much rather know the person that is being brought than a random guest.

Re: Inviting people w/ guests
I feel like too many of FH's friends would bring someone just to bring someone if they were invited with a guest and not think to add any more money to the envelope. We went to a wedding with a few of them in December and one couple gave $50 total for the 2 of them...
We have adapted this rule -- If you have been dating for 6 months or longer (obviously 6th months is an estimate), you can bring a guest if we've met them and like them. This is only for people who know other people there. I have one friend who would bring his gf, but she hates dancing and would keep him from having a good time. Every time we're out, she makes him leave early b/c she's a party pooper...I don't want to invite her.
Back to topic...if they won't know anyone else, of course they can bring a guest! This is just our personal opinion though. I don't want people there that I don't know, especially if they're going to be there just to be there and keep the person they're with from having a good time!

Can you really invite someone without a guest just b/c you hate their significant other? I love the idea...b/c I could eliminate so many people...but can you really do it? I'm assuming it would really p*ss people off.

Well...they haven't been together that long and I'm going to assume they'll be broken up by the time we get married. If they aren't I'm going to have to invite her !!!!!
If they stay together I'm just going to have a talk with him and tell him he can't leave early if she starts b*tching and moaning...he introduced FH and me, so we want him there and we want him there all night, having a good time!!!!!!

Oh, ok. Was just wondering. I just love to hear how people handle things. I have my own invite issues...which am hoping dont cause a blow out between FH and I when wedding time comes ;)

No because I look at it this way: before FH and I were engaged, if I were invited to a wedding, I'd want to bring him with me.

That is a huge fear of mine. I do worry that someone might bring a guest JUST to bring a guest...doesnt matter who they are- and just ask any old random person

Re: Inviting people w/ guests
I have been invited to weddings with out a guest even when I was in a relationship, I do not think its a personal thing just a budget issue.
FH and I will invite anyone in a relationship with a guest for def. and others maybe not depends on our numbers....
Pretty much everyone I know is married or in a relationship for a while so this is not a real big issue for me. the few that are not yes I will invite them with a guest...

Re: Inviting people w/ guests
i think it depends on the situation... when we really have our definite final list im going to go through everyone and decide whether they can bring a guest or not... i think what im going to do is unless they are in a serious relationship or engaged, or i know they arent going to know anybody else at the wedding then they can have a guest... i dont want to invite someone with a guest if i know they are just going to get anybody... i dont want 50 extra random ppl at my wedding that ive never met before
