Inviting People You Don't Want!

Inviting People You Don't Want!

Are any of you inviting people that you absolutely do not want at the wedding?

I have some distant cousins who I'm not very fond of that my mother insists on inviting, they live out of state & I really only see them every few years. They always gossip about us & ever since I was young I could tell that they were jealous of me & my sister. I don't want these negative people at my wedding, but what can I do?

I know that they're all in long-term serious relationships, so I was thinking of inviting them without a guest, hopefully that will dissaud them from attedning. I'm horrible!!

Is anyone else in this position??

FH and I paid for the wedding so the 'parents' really couldn't tell me who to invite or not invite. Sorry I might not be of help

we are in the same position. we only wanted 150 and now my parents have 98 guests alone--some of which i don't want.
but they feel they went to their weddings so they should be invited. ugh!

I would think if your parents are paying for all or some of the reception then they have partial control over the guest list. If you and FH are paying for your entire wedding yourself then it is different. I conceeded to 25 people from CA (my entire list is less an 100) from my FH family. I decided I couldn't do anything about it because FH's Dad is redoing our 1953 kitchen and paying for all supplies.

My parents are paying for the whole wedding. I really don't mind them inviting people they want there, but it's just that I truly dislike these cousins. The funny thing is my mom doesn't even like them or their parents, she just thinks inviting them is the proper thing to do. Ahh!!!

our plan is to pay for the entire wedding ourselves - so therefore no one can tell us who we 'have' to invite. but we'll see how that works out.

Even though we're paying for most of the wedding, both sets of parents are insisting on inviting friends of theirs that FH and I have never met - I really don't know why these people would want to come to our wedding - i wouldn't go to someone's if I didn't know the bride or groom.

one of my rules for the day is, i don't want to meet someone for the first time on my wedding day. if i don't know you already, i don't want you there. my fmil is the same as your parents, its so frustrating.

Don't even get me started with my inlaws!
They want to invite everyone they know! I can guarantee that when they give me their list, I won't know over half of those people!

Just for clarification - I really don't care how many people my parents invite, even if they wanted 100 people who I never met before to attend, I would respect their decisions. I have a problem with inviting these distant family members who I do not like & are not very nice to my family.

I invited one person to my wedding that I didn't care for. She was a friend but the friendship had soured. I only invited her because I was going to her SIL's wedding 3 weeks after mine and I would have been uncomfortable seeing her soon soon after our wedding.

it's very hard because is your parents who are paying for this guests. Think about it this way, if these are really jealous cousins, you are going to make them more this day how bad! I'm sorry

True

I think whats really irking me about this situation is that noone likes these people, not even my mother, she just wants to invite them because theyre family.

I get what you are saying same thing with me my parents are paying for our wedding too and my father insisted on me putting in my wedding my half sister (his daughter) who I know she is jealous of me and we never really even talk. I put her in it and in the end my dad wound up saying take her out the wedding because she sent me a very mean horrible e-mail saying how much she dislikes me but she will be in the wedding because daddy asked her too. I called her up and cursed her out and my dad is upset with her too. Needless to say she isn't even getting an invite to my wedding!
